THE YANCEY RECORD PAGE 8 j=£ e£ =rf“ Bg I hope many of you had the time and opportunity to read last week's introduction. As the weeks go on, if you should find this column worthwhile, please tell your Mends about it. You as patrons of this pa per are the greatest source of dispersal for the material found therein. This week I would like to pull a few thoughts out of the 30th Chapter of Psalms in the Bible. The basic consideration is found in verses 8 and 9. I quote, "Icried to thee,oLord; and unto the Lord I made sup plication. What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? Shall it declare thy truth?" I doubt that if -you lined up ten theologists that •you could get half of them to concur on its meaning. In the same light, the interpretation expressed here is my own. We, as human beings, are under corstant pressure to per form and succeed. Life offers sparse parses to us; other than severe illnesses that society deems acceptable. It is so easy to become lost and over powered by the demands of the day, that we forget the future. Just as surely as you were bom, you will die. Death is not only biblical, but scientific. The Psalmist David seeks to point out the futility of life if it ends in "the pit". The "pit" is the place of eter nal torment, hell! So let's think about it, what profit is there to your life if you spend your second life crying out for mercy and the abatement of pain. The choice is ours to make. The consequences are forever. You will one day acknowledge God as the Bible has said: "Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess." Will you cry out to God from the clutches of Satan,or praise him from heavens loft ?
