Billy Hughes Visual Aid The Sophomore Home Eco nomics Class of Mars Hill Col lege along with the head of the department, Miss Nimona Bieihaun and Mrs. Susan teacher of mathematics at Mars Hill College, visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. FenilMcCuiry. The visit was a part of the ex panded Home Economics Prog ram of the college in which the students are able to see various types of home decora - tion. Pfc Wounded In Vietnam Pfc. Billy D. Hughes, 21- year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray G. Hughes of Route 2, Burnsville, came home on convalescent leave from his tour of duty in Vietnam. Billy entered the Army in May, 1970 and was sent to Vietnam in October. In Match, 1971, Pfc. Hughes was wounded in the arm and was hospitalized for a short time before being returned to ac tive duty. Later in March he was wounded more exten - sively in the chest and arm by an exploding land mine. He was hospitalized for seve - ral weeks in Tokyo, according to reports, and then sent to Walter Reed Hospital in Wash ington, D.C. for X-rays and checkup. He then came home for further convalescence until May 10 when he is required to report to Walter Reed Hos - pital again. Pfc. Hughes received a Vietnamese Combat Med al and more recently, two Pur ple Hearts during his tour, of duty in Vietnam. Dr. Wampler then went to a Board of Directors meeting in Winston-Salem on Friday. Their children, An drew and Dianne, spent the weekend with Mrs. Wampler's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W, A. Burrus of Mt. Airy, N. C, * Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Westall visited their daughter, Mrs. C. R. Martin and Mr. Martin and family in Washington, D. C. for a few days last week. * Mrs, J. Richard Currie and daughter, Allison, of Westport, Connecticut, are visiting Mrs. Currie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Westall. Mr. Currie is expected to join the family for a few days after his return from a business trip to Hong Kong and Australia. * Dr. and Mis. Edwin Quinn and family of Kings port, Tenn. spent the weekend with Mrs. Quinn's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ray. * Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harde - kopf of West Palm Beach, Fla. spent a few days in Burnsville last week visiting their daugh ter and family, Mr. and Mis. Ed Yuziuk. * Mrs. Hubert Cooper spent last week with her daughter and family, Dr. and Mrs. Zack Newton in Atlanta, Ga. Mrs. Newton and the children re - turned home with her for a visit. * Mr. and Mrs. Keith Stamey of Asheville and family visited relatives in town over the past weekend. * Mis. Doyce McClure and Mrs. Joe Higgins are surgery patients at Spruce Pine Com munity Hospital. * Mr. and Mrs. Williard Briggs and baby of Hickory, N.C. visited Mis.Briggs' par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Ed - wards,over the weekend. * Mrs. Howard Barbee has been admitted to Yancey Hos pital for treatment, and Mis. Lauderdale, Fla. visited. * Mrs. George Roberts visited her mother, Mrs. Lester Lamb in Ingold, N.C. for the week end. * Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Edge spent the weekend with Mr. and Mis. Mr. and Mrs. Patter - son attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. * Mrs. Hazel Norwood of War renton, N.C., has been visit ing her daughter, Mrs. Ben Thomas and family, Route 2, Burnsville, for a few days. 4-H Workshops 4-H in cooperation with the Harbor House Marine Scienoe Center has scheduled three Marine Environment Summer Workshops to be held at the Harbor House facility on Har bor Island at Wrightsville Bch, N. C. during July and August. Each of the three workshops consists of six days of study of our Marine environment inclu ding lectures, films, discussicn and field trips to coastal areas and Marine science labordteris. The purpose of the program is to make each student aware of the coastal environment and its problems; to show tint ocean ography is an interdisciplinary science; to acquaint students with scientific instruments used in exploring this new frontier and to provide a career guid ance experience.
