Frazier. 1971. Pp. 176. Broadman Press, Nash ville, Tennessee. "The physician finds his freedom in his fetters, in the symbolic codes that assign him his role and render it toleri>le to make judgments involving life and death. " This state ment appears in the book Should DoctoK Play God? compiled by Dr. Claude A. Frazier of many articles written by his numer - ous friends. "To be or not to be" is the theme, more or less, of the book. Whether the doctors rea lize it or not, they are constait ly playing God as they prolong life with their medications ,vao cines, and treatments. So,the book asks, why should they then object to shortening the span of life, when necessary? All this and many more ques tions are raised, as the authors discuss the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual prob lems of the human body. Hence, each part c£ the body is considered as a contributing part of the whole —from the head, to the he art,to the lungs, to the sex organs, and to the urinary tract. None should be overlooked in the part they play in the overall health of an individual. We are buryiig our heads in the sand if we think otherwise. Gospel Sing Zion Baptist Church is hav ing a gospel sing on Saturday night, May 29th at 7:30 p. m. Groups taking part in this sing are Joyfulaires, Alexander,N. Biddix, plan to be married Friday, May 21. ** A soft answer tumeth avay wrath: But grievous wo ids stir up anger. A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. All the days of the afflic - ted are evil: But he that is of a merry heart hath a continu al feast. Better is little with fear of the Lord Than great treasure and trouble therewith. Better is a dinner of herbs where love is Than a stalled ox and ha tred therewith. Moreover, to meet the great science-technology advances of the future, we are ill pre pared by our ethical heritage. In the days ahead we will be reaching constantly into the moral lore of the Christian com munity in quest of resources for decision-making. Our doctors will be placed more and more in the future with the dilemma of playing God. As laypeople, we must our trust in their judgment, remembering that "their strength will be as the strength of ten, if their hearts are pure". hjE [Hildas Beatrix Potter's classic, The Tale of Peter Rab bit, was reaa by Miss Theresa Coletta to 36 "little people " this past Monday morning and afternoon at the 10 a. m. and 3 p.m. CHILDREN'S HOUR in the Yancey County Public Library.
