Yancey Jaycees Give Linda A Big Send Off Deadline Near Mr. Thurman Leatherwood, State Revenue Collector, ur ges all taxpayers to procure State privilege licenses before July 1, 1971. According to Mr. Leather wood, timely applications for licenses, together with the cor rect remittance, should be mailed to the North Carolina Department of Revenue, Ra leigh, North Carolina, or be submitted to the local State Revenue office. He advises that the penalty for failure to comply will be 5% for each delinquent month, or fraction thereof. VL lE* • S m rSF^ H Ere' nt |p “ SHADES OF YESTERYEAR—Parked in front of the old courthouse in Burnsville last Saturday were cars belonging to the Piedmont Antique Auto Club from Rockwell, North Carolina. The Club toured Yancey County on their first trip to the mountains in their 1915, 1917 and 1919 Fords and a 1927 Chevrolet. The group reportedly had a good time and “no ear trouble.” Miss North Carolina Pageant Deyton plan to attend the pa geant on Friday and Saturday nights also. Linda is very excited about the pageant and meeting all the girls who will participate in the pageant. She had an opportunity to meet Miss Mc- Dowell County, Miss Morgan ton, Miss Asheville, Miss Can ton, and Miss North Carolina, Miss Connie Lemer when they appeared on Mr. Bill's Show last Tuesday morning. Linda's schedule while in Charlotte will begin with a welcoming party Monday night Linda will be wearing a pink Chiffon party dress trimmed with rhinestones. Tuesday night Linda will compete in the swim suit competition. She has chosen a one-piece suit of a coral color for that event. Thursday afternoon Linda will meet with the Judges for her interview, and that night will be the Evening Gown Competi tion. Linda made her gown for this event from material donated by Glen Raven Mills, Burnsville. The gown and lin ings are made from a textured Dacron Polyester Crepe in Main tain Sky Blue and Apple Green. Friday night Linda will be com peting in the talent competi - THURSDAY, JUNE 17,1971 tion, and she will give a piano rendition of Opus 31, No. 2 Beethoven's Sonata in DMiror. All of the evenings perfor - mances will start at 7:30, ex cept the finals on Saturday night which begin at 8:30 p.m. The finals on Saturday night will be televised on a state - wide network beginning at 10:00 p. m. Linda has just finished her first year at Berry College in Rome, Georgia where she is majoring in Music Education. Saturday morning and after noon the girls will rehearse for the televised Saturday night grand parade—after which the 10 finalists will appear in com petition and winners will be named.
