Yancey’s Linda Deyton Competes For Crown
Miss Linda Deyton, the
current Miss Mayland left Sun
day afternoon to participate in
the week long events connec -
ted with the Miss North Caro
lina Pageant in Charlotte.
T.jnHfl is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. O. W. Deyton and
is one of 63 girls competing
in four groups. Linda has been
assigned to Group D.

State Revenue Collector, ur
ges all taxpayers to procure
State privilege licenses before
July 1, 1971.
According to Mr. Leather
wood, timely applications for
licenses, together with the cor
rect remittance, should be
mailed to the North Carolina
Department of Revenue, Ra
leigh, North Carolina, or be
submitted to the local State
Revenue office. He advises
that the penalty for failure to
comply will be 5% for each
delinquent month, or fraction
thereof.

geant on Friday and Saturday

Club toured Yancey County on their first trip to the mountains in their 1915, 1917 and 1919
Fords and a 1927 Chevrolet. The group reportedly had a good time and “no ear trouble.”

the pageant and meeting all
the girls who will participate
in the pageant. She had an
opportunity to meet Miss Mc-
Dowell County, Miss Morgan
ton, Miss Asheville, Miss Can
ton, and Miss North Carolina,
Miss Connie Lemer when they
appeared on Mr. Bill's Show
last Tuesday morning.
Linda's schedule while in
Charlotte will begin with a
welcoming party Monday night
Linda will be wearing a pink
Chiffon party dress trimmed with
rhinestones. Tuesday night
Linda will compete in the
swim suit competition. She
has chosen a one-piece suit of
a coral color for that event.
Thursday afternoon Linda will
meet with the Judges for her
interview, and that night will
be the Evening Gown Competi
tion. Linda made her gown
for this event from material
donated by Glen Raven Mills,
Burnsville. The gown and lin
ings are made from a textured
Dacron Polyester Crepe in Main
tain Sky Blue and Apple Green.
Friday night Linda will be com
peting in the talent competi -

Linda Welcomed To Charlotte By Pageant Official
Charlotte.
Linda has just finished her
first year at Berry College in
Rome, Georgia where she is
majoring in Music Education.
Saturday morning and after
noon the girls will rehearse for
the televised Saturday night
grand parade—after which the
10 finalists will appear in com
petition and winners will be
named.

On Tuesday, June 29, he
will be at the Yancey County
Courthouse, Burnsville, from
1:00 to 2:00 p.m.; and at
the Town Hall, Spruce Pine,
from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
