Again this year, a special Outdoor Guitar and Song Con cert will be held July 4th on the Town Square in Bumsvilli A much appreciated feature of last year's Music In Tire Moun tains, it is hoped that all Yan cey Countians and visitors to this area will include this pro gram in their Independence Day celebration. At the Outdoor Conccrt,tic ket sales will not be fcasiblq (an offering will be asked to help defray expenses) but at the other concerts, an admis - sion charge of SI.OO ( stucfcnts 504) will be asked. Tickets will be available at the Nu Wray Inn and Yancey County Country Store —not at the church where the concert will be held. With the exception of the first concert at the Presbyter - ian Church and the July 4th concert on the Town Square, all concerts will be held in the First Baptist Church Burns ville, at 4:00 p. m. on Sun days. A Woodwind Ensem ble will be featured on July 11, a Chamber Ensemble July 18 , a String Quartet July 25, and a Chamber Ensemble on Au - gust 1. Classes Held A Shorthand Class will be gin Tuesday, June 29, 7 p. m. in Room #3 at the Courthouse. It is sponsored by WAMY and McDowell Technical fostitute. m ON LUMBER AND BUILDING MAIERIALS On August 8, a special con cert for the benefit of Music in the Mountains will be giv en by Mme. Lili Kraus. This will provide a unique opportu nity to hear one of the world's great artists play in an intim - ate setting and to visit with her informally after the con cert. The charge for this con cert will be $2.50 ( students $1.00) . Workshops for Music In The Mountain will be held this year at Mars Hill College be cause of lack of facilities in Burnsville. However, it is hoped that the entire program can be moved to Burnsville in the near future when adequate arrangements can be made. At the workshops, a faculty of 13 professional musicians will teach piano, harpsichord, organ, violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, guitar, lute, recorder, igukGreen Mountain By Mrs. H. D. Hensley 682-3601 Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Cox and family of Fort Worth,Tex. has been visiting with Mrs. Cox's mother, Mrs. Floy Whit son for a few days. They left on Monday for Alexandria, Va. to visit a brother, Mr. Bill Whitson, and then they will return to their home in Texas. * * Mr. and Mrs. Everett Gar land and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Whitson and Angela have been visiting relatives in Millers, Maryland, for the past week. Also Mr. and Mrs. Chris Gar land who had spent several weeks with their daughter in Maryland returned home with them. * * Mrs. Phyllis. Bailey and Mis. Rissie Styles visited with Mrs. Kate Kilmer Sunday af ternoon. * * Mr. Roy Lee Anglin has returned to his summer jo b as Park Ranger at Linville,N. C. Mr. Anglin teaches school the rest of the year. ** Mr. and Mr". Keith Renfro celebrated birthdays last week. Mrs. Renfro's "Janet"was June 10th. A few scholarships have been made available. Students and ama teur musicians will give reci tals, and students and faculty will play together as a cham ber ensemble. Both recitals and rehearsals will be open to the public without charge. For the year 1971 funds are needed to cover minimum fa culty salaries, music, main tenance and transportation of instruments, rental of practice and rehearsal rooms, scholar - ships, publicity, etc. A na tional foundation will provide half of the expenses, but re quire that local efforts match this grant. A number of people are contributing their services but the balance of $ 3,75 0 must be raised in cash from individual contributions, stu - dent fees, and concerts. All gifts are tax-deductible. Ralph and Farrell Tipton visited with their sister and family Saturday night,Mr.and Mrs. Robert Williams at Wa tauga, Tenn. * * Mrs. Esther Bamett of John son City, Tennessee and Mrs. Mae Jones of Coatesville, Pa. visited their father on Father's Day, Mr. Ervin Hopson, and their brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Loss Hopson. * * Mr. and Mrs. Wash Fox's children visiting on Father's Day were Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Fox and family of Asheville, Mr. and Mrs. T.H. Fox and family of Spruce Pine, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hylemon of Bakersville, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Fox and daughter. ** Rev. and Mrs Shear ill Whitson had Sunday Dinn e r with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ble - vins. * * Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Robin son from Michigan has been visiting Mrs. Robinson's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Laws, also the Robinson's daughter at Old Fort, N. C. and Mr. Robinson's mother, Mrs. William Robinson who is in St. Joseph's Hospital in Asheville. * * Mr. and Mrs. Roger Peter son spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Peter son and visiting with the ir week-old nephew, little Er nie Lee Peterson. * * We were all very sorry about the death of Mr. Hiram Ramsey. He led a long and fruitful life, and treated every one with kindness. He will certainly be missed in the com munity, and by his family.
