Mitchell Music Park on White Oak Creek Road,.South Toe, June 27th. Peggy Lee, songwriting and recording star on the country music scene,and Sonny Wright, a well - known guitarist and singer who is also a recording artist, will be the featured talent. The Mt, Mitchell Music Park Sunday Musicals started Parade Plans White Oak Creek Commu - nity Club had their monthly meeting on Monday evening. Plans are being formulated for the annual White ChkCreek 4th of July Parade. The Parade will be held on Saturday, July 3rd at 11 a.m. The Community Picnic will be held immediately followiig the parade at the Harrison's Music Park. Food will be pro vided by each family. There will be music and games and Mends are invited. They feature Country and Bluegrass Music and Gospel Music by many professional music groups and the Harrisons hope to present several name stars in the future. Performances have been held outdoors for the past weeks, but a building is due to arrive this week, hopefully in time for this Sundays concert. Admission to the performan ce is $3.00 for this Sunday special one, but $2.00 is the standard admission fee, with children under 12 free. Per formances begin at 2:00 p. m. each Sunday, and the Sunday concerts are scheduled to be held through September. Coker, owner and ma nager. ch 7-8 Miss Biggerstaff will re ceive an honorary one - year subscription to The Read er% Digest in any one of its 13 language-editions which she chooses, and a personal cer tificate from the Editors "in recognition of past accomp lishments and in anticipation of unusual achievement to come." The Reader's Digest Asso ciation is presenting these awards in senior high schools throughout the United States to the highest honor student of each graduating class. The award to Miss Bigger staff, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Biggerstaff of Burnsville, was made possi ble through the cooperation of Mr. Anglin and his teaching staff. They selected Miss Big gerstaff to receive the award, designed to stimulate scholar ship, citizenship, and continu ed contact with good reading after graduation. Local Youths At Workshop Three young Burnsville re sidents, Jeannie Biggerstaff Linda Deyton and Ctnrlie Ibom, will attend the workshops of Music in the Mountains at Mars Hill College beginning June 27 and extending through July 24. The workshops will be led by a professional staff of 13 skilled teachers and per formers and are open to stu dents and amateur musicians of all ages. Miss Biggerstaff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack E. Big gerstaff, and Valedictorian of her class at East Yancey High School this Spring, will at tend Appalachian State Uni - versity in September wit h plans to major in music edu cation. A piano student for the past 9 years, Miss Bigger staff intends to use the work shop experience to develop her talent in keyboard instru ments and to become more familiar with ensemble work. Miss Deyton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Deyton, is also a pianist and, like Miss Biggerstaff, has been a pupil of Mrs. Joan Reeve for a num ber of years. Miss Maylandtf 1970, Miss Deyton is a grad uate of East Yancey Hig h School and will enter the So phomore Class of Berry Colley in Georgia this fall holding scholarships for both music and general academic excell ence. Mr. Boone, a rising senior at East Yancey High School, fc the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Leonard Boone. He has studied piano for the past 7 years as well as organ dur ing the past winter with Pro fessor Donna Robertson of Mars Hill College. He is presently serving as organist of the First Baptist Church in Burnsville, and this summer is heading a cooperative youth project pre paring a contemporary musi cal entitled "Purpose." Dean’s List Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Edge were named to the Dean's List for the spring semester at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
