Students To Work On Housing Survey Three students from Appa - lachian State Univetsity will work as summer Interns under the supervision of the directors of the two Local Development Districts in Region D this summer. Region D was formed under Governor Scott's program of regionalization in May 1970, and includes the counties of Alleghany, Ashe,Avery,Mitch ell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yan cey. Two local Development Dis tricts, farmed under the Appa lachian Regional Commission have been located in the Regiaa since 1967. The Mountain Scenic office in New land is Directed by Mrs. Ruth GJohn son and the Blue Ridge office is in North Wilkesboro; Alfred Houston, Director. Two interns, Jim Parsons of Lansing in Ashe County and Ken Nelson of Burnsville will be working in the area of hous ing. Ralph Ledford, originally from Hayes ville in Clay Coun ty and now a resident of Boone, will work on compiling a Re connaisance, or overall, sur vey of the Region. Mr. Parsons and Mr. Nelson will be updating all surveys on housing needs in municipal! - ties and in rural townships. They will also try to determine opinion of public officials and private citizens about the need for housing, and the method that are preferred for getting a regionwide housing organiza - tion or a cooperating group of such organizations started.
