MRS. VERNIE RATHBURN
Mb. Vemie Rathbum, 77,
of the Indian Creek Section of
Yancey County died in a Burns
ville hospital Tuesday night
after a long illness.
Surviving are the husband,
Sam A. Rathbum; four daugh
ters, Mrs. Clayton Ballard of
Columbia, S.C., Mrs. Law -
rence Hylemon of Williams -
burg, Va., Mrs. Charles Wal
drup of Rochester, Michigan
and Mis. Thomas Ray of Royal
Oak, Michigan; three sons,
Glenn of Cane River, Burl of
Route 3, Burnsville and Earl
Rathbum of Troy, Michigan;
one sister, Mis. Bertha Ray
of Route 3, Burnsville; 15
grandchildren and five great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
at 2:00 p. m. Friday, Septem
ber 17 in the Cane River Bap
tist Church. Rev. James
Rev. Walser Penland, Rev.
Ellis Ray and Rev. James Bea
ver officiated and burial was
in the Family Cemetery.
Guyer is working with the Jun
ior Girl Scout Troops.

the Special Girl Scout Day
at Grandfather Mountain on
Saturday, September 25. Girl
Scouts are admitted free.. and
all proceeds of the day from
other visitors will go to the
Pisgah Girl Scout Council.

privileged to be part of some
60 leading evangelicals from
across the States who accom
panied Dr. John Haggai on a
month-long missionary and
evangelistic tour of India. He
has recently been invited to
share in a similar experience
with the Haggai Evangelistic
Association by being among
those selected to share the
Gospel in Singapore, the cross
roads of the Asian world.

Jane Bailey, 59, of Bums -
ville died in an Asheville hos
pital Thursday night after a
brief illness. She was em
ployed by the Nu-Wray Inn
in Burnsville.
Surviving are a son, Joe J.
Bailey of Spruce Pine; four
sisters, Miss Myrtle and Miss
Hazel Bailey of Burnsville Rt.
4, Mrs. Minnie Cannon of
Burnsville and Mrs. Floyd Frank
lin of Mars Hill; two brothers,
Paul Bailey of Johnson City
and Levi Bailey of Burnsville,
Route 4; one grandson.

Chapel of Holcombe Brothers
