This week we are sharing with you a good winter time dish of scalloped potatoes. When served with a salad and light dessert this is a hearty meal. We suggest green bean salad and for dessert sliced bananas in instant va nilla pudding with generous sprinkling of nutmeg. (Our recipe this week is from Mary Lillian Towe.) SCALLOPED POTATOES Use large casserole dish and fill only about two-thirds full to prevent boiling over. 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes 1 small onion sliced V ,n (CBulodeon from Burisville and Bertie Honeycutt. • Mrs. John Ham mitt is re ported to be improving very weE after undergoing surgery that fee had on her knee last week. • Mr. Tony Jenkins has purchased a lot from Hirrdcc Hughes on Rock Creek above Buladean in front of Mr. Hoyt Hughes property. There were 14 of her friends present and she received many lovely gifts. The spaghetti supper spon sored by the Jaycees for fund raising was a big success. If anyone has any infar - mation about legends of Bear Creek cr Ledger please contact either Randal Wil lis or Karen Sparks. 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 soup can water 1/2 cup american cheese 1/4 cup sharp cheddarcheese salt and pepper to taste Put half of potatoes in large casserole dish and fill only about two-thirds full to pre vent boiling over. Cover with thin onion slices. Sprin kle with salt and pepper. Place sliced cheese on top of onions. Repeat with re mainder of potatoes, onion and cheeses. Add diced ham if you prefer. Pour over the mushroom soup and water. Bake covered tightly for one hour in 350 degree oven. Re move cover and bake 20 or 30 minutes longer. He was hospitalized for eye surgery. They have been selling record albums and will continue to sell these to finish paying their share. They also discussed call ing the Recreation Depart - ment of the TVA and invitiig them to the next meeting to discuss the Youth Council Project. ★ We, the Cane River stu dents, would like to take this time to welcome MrsJ’hyllis Bailey back to school. She became ill two weeks ago at school and J.T. Randolph and Mrs. Mary Swann rushed her to the doctor where she was hospitalized. Mrs. Bailey returned to school Wednesdty, January 26. We hope she is enjoying being back to school and missed us as much as we missed her. : Word has been received that two brothers of Mr . Famum McKinney, Mr. Hence McKinney and Mi; Tom Duvall are very sick and in the hospital. One brother, Gaither, is in the hospital in Kentucky. The other brother, Austin, is in the hospital in Shelby. : Gregory Honeycutt of Appalachian State University spent the weekend with his grandmother, Mrs. Virginia Wilson. Mrs; Wilson went to Boone after him Friday and took him back Sunday. > Jimmy Street, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Street, is in Mem trial Hospital in Johnson City.
