C. last Thursday. * Mcrris Wilson of Jacks Creek, who is in the Air Force and stationed in South Dakota, has been home on a fifteen day furloug’i. * Misses Marilyn Laughrun and Jeannie Biggerstaff, who are ASU students at Boone, spent the weekend with their parents. * Mr. Wong, a beautiful serene Siamese cat belong - ing to Mrs. Lena Tilson, be came angry and confused when an alley cat appeared in his front yard. Instead of greeting his visitor warm ly, he flew into a rage and onto the visiter tooth and toe nail. The loud cries emitted from the cats brought Lena to the do or where she saw what was hap pening and stooped to retrate Mr. Wong and Iring him in the house. In doing this, it landed her in tte hospital fer a week, —’ taking3ostitches to close the wound in her leg inflicted by one of the cats, .uiwntentionally, of course! 1 * Mr. and Mrs. George lie Hensley and family of Selling, Flcrida are visiting Mr. and Mrs, Leslie Hersley. * Phillip Thomas was taken to Spruce Pine Hospital for treatment having been taken sick at a basketball game. * Mr. and Mrs, J.B. Mc- Dowell held Open Hoise in their recently purchased home on Bolens Creek. * Mrs. Vernie Presnell is in the Spruce Pine Hospital for treatment. She is being transferred to a Winston Sa lem Hospital soon. * Mr. and Mrs. Roger Estep and family of Hampton, Va. visited Mrs. Estep’s mother, Mrs. Troy Ray, last week. * Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Wes tall, Mr. and Mrs. Vint Wes tall and Martha Ann and Phil Ray drove over to Marion fort' dinner at the Pilot House Restaurant Sunday. The food was excellent. * William Kenneth Higgins of Charlotte, N.C,has been promoted to Shop Supervisor at Controls Southeast, Inc. He is a mechanical techni<- cian fee the company. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace H. Higgins of Ru 1, Burnsville. * Kenneth Higgins, Yvonne Hunter and Dee Dee from Charlotte had dinner Sunday with Mr. and Mis. Horace Higgins. * Richard Allen Bolin and Judy Oittenden of Florida visited their grandfather, Mr. W. A. Banks on Banks Creek over the weekend. Bolin has been attending Navy Col lege. He is a Sonar Techni cian and is now on a cruise around the world, * Mr. and Mis. Oscar Tip ton of Micaville, N.C. had as their guests over the weekend their daughter, Ann Howard and chilcken, Tammy Marie and Carol Jr. of Greenville, S.C. Also another daughter, Mrs. John ny Ponder and Mr. Ponder of Weaverville, N.C. | COOKING FOR | PLEASURE BILLIE STEWARTgi— ■■ I wonder if anyone has days like I do, when you don't want to cook, wash dishes, or anything but look at old magazines, catalogs and picture albums. It may not be very rewarding but it sure is fun. I started out looking for a recipe, butgot off the track someplace. I came up with a meatloaf that sounds different. Thougjit you might want to try it. MEAT LOAF with ZESTY TOPPING 3/4 cup milk 11/2 cups soft breadcrumbs 2 pounds ground beef 2 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper 1 med. carrot, grated 1 small anion, diced 2 eggs, beaten 1/4 cup catsup 3 tblsp. brown sugar 2 tblsp. prepared mustard Pour milk over bread crumbs. Add ground beef, salt, pepper, carrot, onion, and eggs. Mix thoroughly. Pack in a 9 x 5 inch loaipan. Mix catsup, brown sugar and mistard; spread over meat loaf. Bake at 325 degrees far 1 1/2 hours. Yield eight servings. BROCCOLI WITH CREAMY SAUCE.. (Makes six servings) 1 cup water 1/2 salt 2 packages (10 oz.each) fro zen broccoli spears 1/2 cup mayonnaise cr salad dressing 3 tblsp. milk 1 tsp. lemon juice 1/4 cup dairy sour cream Bring water and salt to boiling in a skillet Add bro ccoli} cover. Cook, following label directions, until tender. Heat mayonnaise cr salad dressing, milk and lemon juice., stirring constantly just until hot in a smallsaico pan. Stir in sour cream. Drain broccoli} arrange in serving dish} top with nice. CHOCOLATE REVEL BARS 1 cup butter or margarine 2 cups brown sugar 2 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. salt 3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats 1 15-ce can sweetened con densed milk 1 12-oe package (2 cups) of semisweet choc.pieces 2 tblsp. butter cr margarine 1/2 tsp. salt Barbara Jean Bailey Couple Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Grady Bait ey of Old Fcrt, North Caro lina announce the engage - ment of their daughter, Miss Barbara Jean to Richard Allen Loftis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Loftis of Burns ville Route 5. A spring wedding is plan ned. The bride-elect is a 1967 graduate cf Old Fcrt High School and is now em ployed by Old Fort Finishing Company. The groom-elect is a 1968 graduate of East Yan cey High School and is self employed. 1 cup chapped walnuts 2 tap. vanilla In large mixer bowl, cream together the 1 cup of butter or margarine and foe brown sugar. Beat in eggs and the 2 tsp. vanilla. Sift together flow, soda and the 1 tsp. salt; stir in oat?. Stir dry ingredients into creamed mixture till blended; set aside. In heavy saucepan, over low heat melt together sweetened ctradensed milk, chocolate pieces, the remain ing butter and salt, stirring until smooth. Stir in nuts and remaining vanilla. Pat 2/ 3 of oat mixture in bot - tom of IS 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch baking pan. Spread chocolate mixtire over oat mixture. Bake in 350 oven for 25 to 30 minutes; cool. Cut into 2xl inch bars. Makes about 75. Sheila is die daughter of Mr. and Mrs Avery Parker of South Toe. She is in the 10th grade and some of her activities in clude F.H.A., Monogram Club and Pep Club. She en joys basketball, track, tennis, reading and just having fun. Sheila's future plats are to attend college and become a Physical Education teacher. Consumerama Set For Winston-Salem In April An event where the con sumer can meet face to face with business is scheduled for Winston Salem for April 5,6,7,8. This event is called Consumerama 2 in '72 following the first Con sumerama held in '7l.
