The highlight of the even - ing came when Mr, Ell, a clar inetist, and Mrs. Ell, a cellist, botli spoke briefly about their instruments and then performed. Hearing music played by artists from so close and watching them bring the warm soimds and melodics from their instruments is exciting, it was agreed by all. Refreshments were then served. Burnsville's Northwestern Bank Gets President's Cup For Achievement The Burnsville Branch of The Northwestern Bank receiv ed the President's Cup for branch achievement at a sys tem-wide meeting of officers, directors, and wives at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville on Saturday, May 20, 1972. The cup was presented by Ed win Duncan, Jr., president of The Nortliwcstem Bank, andvas accepted by Hazen Ledford, Hazen Ledford executive vice president of tlie Burnsville Brandi of the Bank. Considered in the judging were performance, growth, ii> ternal operations, and commu nity image. Some eight hun dred Northwesterners were present. Among these were the following members of the Burnsville Board of Directors; Mr. and Mrs. James A. Anglin, Mr. and Mrs. Charles GillespfcL Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Reece Mc Intosh, Mr, and Mrs, Robert Presnell, Mr, and Mrs, James Proffitt, Mr. and Mrs. James W, Ray, and Mr. and Ivhs, Joe Young. Horse Show To Be Held The seventh annual' horse show, sponsored by the Mar shall Lions Club will be held Saturday afternoon and night on the island in Marshall, Seventeen classes will per form in the afternoon and sev enteen classes, including the championship, will perfOTm in the night program. Activities will start at 1:00 p. m« in the afternoon and at 7:30 at night. In addition to trophies and ribbons, cash awards'will be given. The highlight of. the meeting was a resolution pre sented by South Toe Democra tic townsJiip chairman, Junior Wilson. This resolution reque^ ted that members of the gen eral assembly representing A'^ncey Coimty introduce legis lation repealing Senate Act i902 which placed Yancey Courrt^' into two districts for the election of members of the board of education. Under the new plan tlie mcmbeis vzould be elected county-wide. This would not effect the elec tion of members by district in 1972, but would be effective after the 1973 session repealed the present act. This resolu - Cion was passed without a dis senting vote. The 1973 Act would spell out if tlie election would be on a partisan or non partisan basis. Ed Wilson was re-elected Coxmt>' Chairman. It will be in line with champion golf courses aU over the country, "The greater part of the course, " he said, '\vill be lo cated in the lower areas, and practically every hole on the course will be located near South Toe River, " Bible School To Begin First Baptist Church Vaca - tion Bible School will begin Monday, June 5th and extend through Friday, Jime 16th from 8:30 to 11:30 each day Monday through Friday. There will be classes for children from birth to age 14 in the momins and evening classes for youth- ages 15 through 17 from 7*00 until 9:00 p. m. According to Rev. Harold McDonald, pastor of First Baptist Church, 171 members were enrolled last year. This year he anticipates about the same number. Ml. Mitchell Crafts Fair Preparations Being Made The 16th annual Mt. Mitch- cU Crafts Festival will be held tJiis year on the Town Square on August 4 and 5, Plans are now imderway in preparation for the event wliich a t tr acts people from far and near. The truck is now back on the job and regu lar collection will begin. The response to the dump sters has been tremendoic and Yancey County should be con gratulated for their efforts to clean up the community.
