A grant of $50,000 was awar ded to Four Square Community Action, Inc, Andrews,N.C., for general community program ming; and a grant of $66,000 was made to Western Economic Development Organization,Ha zelwood, North. Cosby, Jr., said today that all social secur ity beneficiaries who are on the benefit rolls in September will automatically receive a 20 percent increase. The in crease is effective beginning with the payments for the moith of September which will be re ceived October 3. The new law also includes a provision for automatic annual increases in Social Security be nefits as the cost of livingrises in the future. Under the new law the max imum taxable amount of an nual earnings that is counted for benefit and contribution purposes will rise from the pre sent $9,000 a year to SIO,BOO in 1973 and to $12,000 in 1974. Thereafter, this amount will be adjusted automatically to keep pace with rising wages. These additional earnings will count toward the benefits pay able to workers and their fami lies in the future. George Britton To Service In Folk Music Style I Unique Worship Service Is Planned A worship service in folk music style titled "You and Me and Ecology " will be presented by George Britton, a Music in the Mountains resident artist and folk singer of note, Sunday' at 11:00 a. m. in Higgins Memor ial Methodist Church, Burnsville. Britton, teaching guitar.,,.and lute in Music in the Mountains' summer camp at Mars Hill Col lege, will be assisted by some of his students, by the pastor, the Rev. W. Ralph Jacks, and by encouraged congregation participation. He will play a 17-string renaissance lute in the service for which he composed words and music, using some traditional melodies and some borrowings from other singers, such as Jean Ritchie's "Black Waters. Burnsville's own Eve Lynne Reeve on Harpsichord was one of the artists' in Music in the Mountains' third concert of the annual chamber music furies here last Sunday afternoon in the Presbyterian Church. Others heard were Susan Fries on flute; Ruth Geiger, piano; Jon Peter - son, oboe; Robert Fries, horn; Janet Peterson, clarinet; Daniel Phipps, bassoon. Next in the series will be a concert of Beethoven, Saint- Saens and Borodin tonight at 8:00 p. m. in the Mars Hill College open air amphitheater, and at 3530 p. m. Sunday in the Burns ville Presbyterian Church with m usic by Haydn, Chopin and Borodin. Services will not be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. Instead, for this special Music in the Moun tains program, joint services will be held with Higgins Me - morial United Methodist Church. ★ Mu lie in the Mountains will present George Britton in a concert of classic guitar and Elizabethan songs to the lute and guitar on Tuesday, July 18 at 8:00p. m. in Spainhour Hall of the Moore Fine Arts Riilding at Mars Hill College ,Mars Hill, North Carolina. He will play a 17-string Re naissance lute made for him by Donald Wamock, one of the finest and foremost luthiers in the United States. Mr. Britton has concertized extensively throughout the U. S. for the past 25 years. He has recorded for Folkways, ABC, Pa ramount , 20th C eirtury and Fortress. Yancey County Coun try Store has some of his recor dings. Robert B. Young Young Promoted Mr. Robert Bruce Young has been promoted to outside plant supervisor for Westco Telephoe Company in the Burnsville area. Mr. Young's responsibility consists of the installation and maintenance of outside plant facilities in Burnsville, Bakers ville, and Micaville. He will have six installer-repairmen % ; ar *d one cable splicer reporting to him. Mr. Young began his tele phone career in April 1963 with Westco Telephone Company jn Mars Hill as an installer-repair man where he worked until Jan uary of 1966. He then went to work for Central Telephone Co. at Hickory, N.C.as installer repairman working his way to supervisor with this company. In November 1970 Mr. Young came to work for Weetem Caro lina Telephone Company as an installer-repairman working in this position until his promo - tion to outside plant supervisor on May 28, 1972. Mr. Young and his wife, Glenna, two children Regina and Robert L. live in Micaville.
