Ray, 73, World War II veteran died in a WNC Veterans Hospital Saturday af ternoon after a long illness. He was a native of Yancey Coun ty and had lived in Asheville for several years prior to enter ing the Veterans Administration Hospital. Surviving are one Sister, Mrs. Cecil Styles of Burnsville, Route 1; and one brother, Sgt. Marion Ray, U.S. Army, Ft, Lewis, Wadiington; Several ' nieces and nephews also sur vive. Funeral services were held at 2:30 Monday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Hairy Culbert son officiated and burial was in the Ray family cemetery in the Concord section. LILLER LEWIS Mrs. Liller Lewis, 52, of ; the Bee Log Community died !• from drowning Saturday mom ; i“g. Surviving are one daughter, Mis. Buddy Edwards of Rt. 4, ; Burnsville ; two sons, Harold I Lewis and Rose Lewis of Erwin, ; Tennessee; the parents, Mr. | and Mis, Robert D, ! of Route 4, Burnsville; one sister, Mrs. C. T. Davis of Asheville; two brothers,Briscoe Randolph of Glenwood and Francis Randolph of Kansas Ci ty, Missouri and six grandchil dren. Funeral Services were held at 11 :00 a. m. Monday in the little Creek Holiness Church. Rev. DeVon Randolph officia ted and burial was in the lewis Cemetery. REV. ELZIE RAY Rev. Elzie Ray, 78, retired Baptist minister of the Bald Creek section of YanceyCbunty died in a Burnsville hospital on Saturday morning after a long illness. Surviving are the wife, Rosa lee Hensley Ray; three daugh ters, Mb. Weldon Harness of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Mm. Phillip Pickett of Durham and Mrs, Esther Peteßon of Burns ville; four sons, Grover and Tommy Ray of Route 3, Burns ville, Rev. Harold Ray of Wea verville and Canoll Ray of Charlotte; foursistes, Mm. Clyde Chandler and Mrs, Gay Scoggins of Mars HiH,Mi».Char- U» Holcombe of Baltimore, M 4, and Mb. Tom Mclntosh of Rt. 3, Burnsville ; three brothers, Prank, Blake and Clayton Ray of Rt. 3, Burnsville; and eleven grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at 2i 30 p. m, Sunday in Plea / rant Valley Baptist Church of f which he was a member and pastor. Rev, Jay Blank enmlp *nd Rev, Harlom Ramsey officiated and burial was in the Ray family cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Ballou visited their daughter and son in-law in Cherry Point , N. C. and attended the Christening of their grandson. * Stephen Van-Fleet who makes . his home at the Nu Wray during the summers, has returned from a visit with friends in West Jef ferson, N.C, * Mrs. Joe McQuade is on a ten-day visit with Mends in New York City and Long Inland. * Mrs. P. B. Wilson and son Billy Brooks and Mrs. Eloise Chase have returned home after spendjgg some time visiting Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Camee in Wash. D.C. Mr. and Mrs. William Fox and family in Mitchelville, Md. and Mrs Edward McHanan in Rockville, Md. * Mrs. Lester Garland spent the weekend with her daughter Mrs. Mike Young and Mr. Young and family of Charlotte. * Mrs. Rom Bailey has return ed from a weeks visit with her daughter, Ms. Mary Joe Sofge in St. louis, Mo. ELLAR baile^ Mrs. Ellar R. Bailey, 80, of Route 1, Burnsville died in a local hospital Tuesday night af ter a short illness. She was the widow of R. A. Baileywho died in 1959. Surviving are five daughters, Miss Dorothy Bailey, Mb. Mae Stiles, and Mis. Arvil King,all of Burnsville, Mb. Ray Styles of Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. Ray Metcalf of Arden; three sons, George Bail, /of Barber - ton,"Ohio, Andeßon Bailey of Hendersonville, and Buster Bailey of Alexandria, Va. ;five sisteß, Mrs. Etta Higgins of Newport News, Va. , Mrs.Flcyd Price of Rock Hill, S.C. , Mrs. Geter Peterson of Travelers Rest S.C., Mrs. Charles McNeese of Inman, S. C. and Mb. Dosh ia Hill of Spartenburg, S.C. ; two brothers, Geter Randolph of Johnson City, Tenn. and Aus tin Randolph of Inman, S.C. ; 18 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Friday at 2KX) p. m. kn the Cane River Baptist Church. Rev. James Lamb officiated and bur ial was in the Holcombe Ceme tery. RHODA WRIGHT Mb. Rhoda C. Wright, 51, pf Greenville Tennessee,former resident of Kingport, died at 3:30 p. m. Tuesday at Holston Valley Community Hospital of an apparent heart attack. She was bom in Hawkins County, Tmnessee and has relatives liv ing in Yancey County. She was a member of East C enter Street Baptist Mission, Kingsport. She is survived by the husband, William G. Wright of the home; one daughter, Miss Barbara Jean Wright of Johnson City; 4 sons, Wallace G., Kenneth Warren, Gary Allen, all of Kingsport, and Sgt. Ronald D. Wfight of Myrtle Bch. AFB, S.C.; one brother, Rev. Milbum More - lock of Kingsport; five sisters, Mrs. Helen Blevins of Kingsport; Mrs. Lucille Wells of Buena Park, Calif; Miss Evelyn More back of San Jose, Calif. , Mrs. D arils Blumstein of long Island, New York, Miss Iva Morelock of Johnson City, Tennessee and 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were con ducted at 2:00 p. m. Friday at Carters Chapel Funeral Home; burial was at Oak Hill Ceme - tery in Kingsport.
