Revival Set At Paint Gap Church
There will be a revival at
the Paint Gap Presbyterian
Church on June 24-30 at 7:30 _
p. m. The Evangelist will be
Rev. Nathan Penland.
Rev. Nathan Penland, now
engaged in full time Christian
evangelism in special meetings
in churches, as well as ,’n city
wide and county-wide revivals,
has a wide and varied experi -
ence in pastoral and musical
ministries.
A graduate of Toccoa Falls
Bible College in Georgia, Mr.
Penland also attended the Uni
versity of Georgia, and as a
student musician traveled wide
ly with the late Dr. R. A.Forrest,

Governor Bob Scott will ad
dress a conference on World
Resources and World Trade to
be held on June 20 and 21 at
Watauga High School in Boone.
He is but one of many experts
horn all over the world to speak
at the two day conference spon
sored by The Community Inter
national Affairs Committee of
Appalachian-State University,
League of Women Voters of
Watauga County, Junior Vforrorfc
Clubs, Rotary, Extension Home
makers and various community
colleges in Northwestern N.C.
Woman’s Club
Holds Meeting
The Burnsville Woman's
Club held its final meeting be
fore disbanding for the summer
recess, at the Community
Building last Thuisday evening.
Thirty-three members and
guests were present for the oc
casion.
The president, Mrs. Ralph
Jacks, presided over the busi
ness session. Reports were
made by varioiE committees,
with emphasis being placed on
our heritage for
posterity, by means of collec
ting various artifacts and his
torical data of the local area,
to be used for exhibits when
the new library reaches com
pletion. Emphasis was also
placed on preserving the en
vironment for posterity by
means of an anti-litter cam
paign.
Mrs. Ernest Briggs announc
ed that the summer workshop
for District II of the NC FWC
will be held in Brevard on July
18, and that all members wish
ing to attend should make re
servations at once.
The program for the even
ing was in the nature of a tra
velogue. The guest speaker
was Mr. Arthur Asher, retired
artist from Port Charlotte,Fla.
and mere recently from Burns
ville. He showed many beau
tiful slides of several foreign
countries which he and his
wife have visited. Also on
display were many of his own
paintings.
Hostesses for the meeting
were Mrs. W. A. Y. Sargent,
Mrs. Joan Reeve, and Mrs. H.
Edwards.

tor in Oneonta and Bessemer,
Alabama; Rome, Georgia and
West Palm Beach, Florida, and
in Asheville at the Alliance
Church until entering the evan
gelistic field in 1972. For 10
years he also conducted a suc
cessful 'drive-in' church in an
Asheville shopping center, main
taining a weekly radio broad -
cast as well

as speaker, soloist and music
Conference
The June 20 program will
begin at 9:30 a. m. , followed
by a workshop at 11 a. m. The
energy crisis is the topic.
The afternoon session begins
at 1:30 p. m., also followed by
a workshop. This discussion
will be on world trade.
At 8:00 p. m. Governor
Scott Will address himself to
"Your Rising Dollar" and tie in
the effect world inflation has
on North Carolina business and
agriculture.
June 21, the 9:30 session
will discuss Defense Strategy
and its cost to citizens. At
1:30 the seminar will involve
itself With Development Aid
and at 8:00 p. m. Defense Stra
tegy will again be discussed
and whether it should be mili
tary or econom.c.
Speakers from AID, World
Bank, Indonesia and various
Universities will be featured at
all sessions and will conduct
the workshops following each
session.

was called upon to minister in
travels through West Africa arid
Europe, and serving as the spea
ker in the annual conference of
missionaries and national work
ers in the Republic of, Ivory Coast.
In his pastoral work, Mr. Pen
land has sponsored several mis
sionary candidates serving as
assistants in his own church,thus
preparing them for overseas
work in two yeais of experience
with him in pastoral duties.
