PAGE 10 THE YANCEY JOURNAL Choral Society Concert Summerthing 11, a concert i of sacred and secular music, : Vv ill be given by the Mayland Choral Society on Sunday, Au- ’ gust 12, 3:00 p. m. ,at Spruce 1 Pine Methodist Church, and on 1 Monday, Augtst 13, Bp.m. at 1 the Burnsville First Baptist Church. Qr. Lee M. Beall, Director of the group, states that this is the most varied program the choral society has given. The concert will consist of selection from Fiddler on the Roof, a Swingle Singers' arrangement of a Bach Bouree, a love song by John Jacob Niles and other vorks by Handel and Mozart, The ma jor work will be the Vivaldi Gloria. The chamber orchestra ac companying the Gloria will in clude Eve Lynne Joan Reeve, Harpsichord; Christopher Koch, Cello; Robert Botti, Oboi;Cary Curtis, Trumpet; Peter Rieke, Violin; and Alvera Martin, Vio lin. Accompanying the secular numbers will be Mrs. VoHammie Johnson, Piano. Vocal soloists for the concert are Susan Beall, Bettie Lou Gun ter, Sue Koch, Nancy Map el, war ijii ■sjf •fiBI;. Tina Banks Yancey Girls in Contest Misses Tonya Allen, 10; Sherri Lynn Phillips, 10; Tina Marie Banks, 11; and Cynthia Ann Whitson, 10 have register ed as contestants representing North Carolina in the National Championship Competitions to be conducted at the Univeisity of North Carolina. The compe tition is produced by Drum Ma jorettes of America National Twirling Organization, which is conducting the National Contst for the 26th consecutive year. The girls will participate in competition with other cham - pions and title holders represen ting most of the fifty states with over 1,000 contestants during '.'*rrr'rh£''-week long activity. Tonya is the daughter of Mr. and Mis. John R. Allen of In dian Trail, Burnsville; Sherri is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
