Community Ac tion, Inc., has recently pro grammed funds into a special -project designed to aid low-in come families in coping with the energy crisis. The Community Action Agency, serving Watauga, Yan cey, Avery, and Mitchell Cbun ties, did not receive special funding but felt the projectwas 1 worthy of diverting funds from other program areas. Many of the homes of the ‘ low-income are not construe - ted far adequately withstand - ing severe winter weather. The agency staff felt that a of fuel, plus sub-standard hous ing could create tremendous problems for many people din- ' ing periods of severely cold weather. 1 With limited fluids, the agency cannot hope to meet all the needs. To date,Yancey County staff has assisted 29 families in the Energy Crisis Project. Insulation, weather-strip - ping, plastic sheeting for winr dows, caulking, lineoleum, doors, etc., have been pur chased to help winterize homes. Volunteer and staff labor have been utilized in installation of the materials. W.A.M.Y. staff urges evay one to be aware of and use the measures for conserving energy. Lowered thermostats, reduced driving speeds, and similar techniques will, if practiced by everyone, result in a tre mendous aggregate saving of energy. Persons interested in further information concerning this project should call the W.A. M.Y. Office at 682-2610. ******************************* I 50% DISC BRAKE | MKcewn * PARTS SPECIAL if Replacement of front disc shoos and lining assemblies including £ 4E hardware.
