Ceremony f At Special Campground Members of the Mental Health Activities class of Yan cey provided a colorful highlight to a ribbon cutting ceremony on Mother's Day. The occasion was the dedication of a dining hall to Robert Eller at Bear Walla Camp near Saluda, North Carolina. The camp is operated by World Changers, Inc., a Tulsa, Oklahoma based non-profit, non-sectarian organization es tablished for the purpose of providing a full range of life assistance to disadvantaged children. Its program is world wide. Bear Walla Camp has been renovated by World Changers for use as a summer camp by disadvantaged and exceptional children. Robert Eller, for whom the dining hall was named, was a boy with Muscular Dystrophy from nearby Asheville. His mother. Sadie Eller, cut the ribbon opening this portion of the camp. Mrs. Louella H. Honeycutt from Burnsville presented se veral colorful wall plaques made by the Mental Health Activities Class of Yancey County. Mrs. Frank Muratori, also of Burns ville, was responsible for having the plaques made. Development of Bear Walla Camp, at this stage, will include a dormitory-cafeteria, a medical clinic and a hexagonal building designed for meetings and gatherings around a large stone fireplace. World Changers also oper ates another camp in Tulsa along with providing youth motivational "Discovery Cli nics." The organization has assisted over 40,000 boys and girls in 16 countries as well as developing 200 projects among American Indians. mwvi Pity the poor penguins. While away Mrs. Gillespie’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Turner of Pink Hill, N.C. are staying with Joe and Davis. * Joe McQuade who was a patient in Spruce Pine Commu jiity Hospital has been removed to Memorial Mission in Ashe ville. * Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Gunder son, Krestee and Karla of Sterling, Va. are visiting Mrs. Gunderson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McCurry. Mr. Gun derson will return to Sterling on Tuesday while Mrs. Gunderson and children will stay for two weeks. * Paul Laughrun is a patient in Charlotte Memorial Hospital, Charlotte. * M/Sgt. and Mrs. Carl Gar land and Michelle visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Garland before his leaving for a six month tour on Okinawa. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Hickman of Monroe, N.C., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garland, also visited for the weekend. Mrs. Hickman is employed in the N. C. Gives Senior Piano Recital Mrs. linda D. Denney pre sented her senior piano recital in McAlister Auditorium of Furman University on Tuesday evening. May 14 at 8:15 p.m. The recital was given in partial fulfillment for the Bachelor of Music degree and included works by Brahms. Beethoven, Debussy, and Liszt.
