F are well Party For Playhouse The Parkway Playhouse, summer theatre of the Univer sity of North Carolina at Greensboro, ended its trium phant 1974 season Saturday night. An annual farewell party for all participants of the Playhouse was held Sunday at Ogle Meadows by Mr. and Mrs. L. Henry Read, Jr., and the George Downings. About 80 were present. While the weather wasn’t good enough for sight seeing, it was good enough for a touch football game with “Woody” (Lauren K. Woods) Managing Director, as one of the Captains. It was unusual as some of the young ladies participated and held their own. A group of ten sat and sang for two hours and others wandered, enjoyed the beauty of the Meadows, talked and made plans for the future. After dinner, “Show Time” was announced and everyone gathered in the large living room. Doug Preis, who played Dr. Henry Higgins in My Fab- Lady did character impersona tions. Songs and skits were presented including a perfor mance by Joanne Aceto who played Eliza Doolittle in My Fab- Lady and Larry Alford, Asso ciate Director, winding up with the talented and highly amusing “twosome” Ellen and Lauren Wood. Songs from My Fab- Lady were sung by all including “Get Me To The Church On Time” led by David Hart who played Dr. Doolittle in My Fab- Lady and Mrs. Read. Cortland Raby Jr., Manag ing Director and Royanne Raby who ran the cafeteria for the Playhouse contributed to the refreshments as did The Yancey Journal. A note written by Eleanor and Frank Sikorsky, Banks Creek, reflects the thoughts of all who attend and support the Parkway Playhouse here in Yancey County. Quote: “To “Woody” and “Pete” and all the great bunch at the Parkway Playhouse: Thank you for a wonderful and entertaining summer”. A great time was had by all at the party and they look forward to the 1975 season and hope everyone will take advan tage of the season tickets which are only available during the first show. Remember that financial contributions will make it possible for talented students to attend the 1975 summer training program.
