News From Cattail Creek By Mrs. Neva Renaldo Tho’ many of our folks have flown south--we still had a fine turn out for our Annual Labor Day covered dish dinner. We were happy to have Percy and Ethel Threadgill as special guests of the Sr. Keith Phillips. Also Mrs. Griggs and her daughter Thomasina who is a well known Interior Decorator in New York and Atlanta came. The Griggs are new residents at the Fairview Condominiums at Grassy Creek Country Club and were some of the special guests of Neva Renaldo. Labor Day just happened to be the birthday of Mrs. Swen Karmark so the occasion was celebrated with a lovely birth day cake baked by Kathryn Walters and Helen Underwood who are par excellent cooks. It was a pleasant evening. Now with the newly tuned piano we were able to sing many of the old familiar and popular songs. The flowers for the table decorations were provided by the George Porters. Incidental ly, the Porters not only produced beautiful flowers all summer but had an outstanding garden they shared with most of us. Thanks, George and Belle. The Clubnouse Grounds were put in apple pie order by our president, Joe Ward, his lovely wife and the Roger Deweys. We are grateful for all your efforts. Joycelyn Brookshire and her daughter Linda are here from Eastern North Carolina visiting with Joycelyn’s father, R. B. Walters. Jimmy and Sandy Baden who were married earlier this summer in Miami are here to spend most of Labor Day week with Jim’s family, the Tom Badens. It’s nice to see Tom Baden and Swen Karmark back in circulation after their recent hospitalization. As I understand it they both have to live within certain limits. The Dr. Gahagens have their cabin to themselves again after a constant stream of company all summer. /® o farefaellSSl LESLIE SWALINSKI Leslie Swalinski, 3‘/j year old daughter of Donald and Mildred Presnell Swalinski of Fayetteville, died Thursday morning in a Chapel Hill hospital following a long illness.
