Leigh Ann also won Back Dancing trophies in the Yancey Youth Jamboree in 1973 and 1974, and the Grand Champion Award for 1974. Miss Robinson’s escort was James Robinson of MlcavUle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Robinson. I fig HERE AND THERE * n Burnsville Vj| BY MRSI BRUCE westall Mr. and Mrs. Horace Higgins were both admitted to Yancey Hospital. * Mr. and Mrs. William Wray ofrSanford, Florida are visiting/Mr. Wray’s brother, Rush Wray and sister, Mrs. John Bennett. * Mrs. Zeke Banks was a patient in Yancey Hospital for several days last week. * V Mr. and Mrs. Champs Gillespie attended the annual' meeting of the North Carol jna Scholarship Application Deadline Announcement has been made that May 1 will be thV deadline for high school seniors of the 18 western counties to apply for the annual SSOO scholarship which is presented each year to a boy or girl of the 18 western counties who are entering college to study horticulture. The scholarship is spon sored by the Horticultural Crops Commission ' of the Western North Carolina De velopment Association. Don ors are Hyman Young Green houses, Asheville Floral Co., and Maier’s Greenhouses, all of Asheville. According to Don Austin, chairman of the horticultural commission, the scholarship has been provided annually for a number of years to encourage youth of the western area -to pursue a career in horticulture. He stated that a number of the previous recipients have re turned to this area and are now actively involved in horticulture, either on their own or with the Agricultural Extension Service. Austin pointed to the rapid expansion that has taken place in horticultural enterprises in Western North Carolina counties bringing it into the number one position in farm enterprises with receipts last year in excess of S4O million. The family included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoke of Washington, D.C., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Coletta of Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. and Mrs. David Coletta of Maysville, Ky., Miss Frances —Coletta of St. Louis, Mo., Miss Irene Coletta of Atlanta, Ga., and Miss Theresa Coletta of the home. While on the cruise they visited their cousins in St. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gould and family. * Mr. and Mrs. Koch Jr. and Judy of Coral Gables, Florida will arrive Sunday, April 27 to spend the summer at their home on Azalea Lane. • Bill and Faye Riddle and daughter, Phyllis, also their two sons Willie and Johnny, went to Maryland to pick up their son, Sgt. Philip Riddle who is in the U.S. Marines. While there they toured the Presidential Retreat at Camp David where Sgt. Riddle is stationed. Sgt. Riddle return ed home with them for a week.
