Chris Burgin Celebrates Birthday . Little Chris Burgin, age 2 years old, celebrated his 2nd birthday July 13th with a party given by his mother, Mrs. Judy Burgin. Several little friends attended the party, making twenty in all. Chris received several nice gifts. Airman Ledford Ledford Chosen For Training Airman Fay Ledford, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Ledford of Route 4, Burnsville has been selected for techni cal training in the U.S. Air Force supply field at Lowry APB, Colorado. The airman recently com pleted basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas, where she studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs and received special instruction in human rela tions. Airman Ledford graduated from Cane River High School in 1969 and attended Western Academy, Asheville, N.C. Homecoming Homecoming, Decoration' Day and preaching services will be held at the Newdale Presbyterian Church on Sun day, August 3. The Pastor, Reverend Ernest Wilson, will deliver the message at 11 o’clock. Because of the Decoration and other activi ties, Sunday School will not be ®o jjjßj tv ROBERT LEE MACE Robert Lee Mace, two month old son of Ronald and Millie Ramsey Mace of Route 5, Burnsville died Monday morning in an Asheville Hospital. Surviving in addition to the parents are the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ramsey of Spruce Pine, and the paternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mace of Route 5, Burnsville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in White Oak Creek Church. Rev. Shelby Carroll officiated and burial was in the Autrey Cemetery. ANNIE RATHBURN Annie P'ankenship Rath bum, 60, of the Indian Creek Community died in a Shelby Hospital Saturday morning after a five year illness. She was a native of Yancey County and the daughter of the late John and Ellen Anderson Blankenship. Surviving are one daugh ter, Mrs. Richard Rice of Grover, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Iris Blankenship England of Burnsville; and three grand children. Khere and there.... In Burnsville BY MRS. BRUCE WEST ALL Cecil Deyton entered the Veterans Hospital in Oteen last week for treatment. • Mr. and Mrs. Ken Wilson of Norman, Oklahoma are visiting relatives in the county. « „ Mr., and Mrs. Keith Stamey and family of Ashe ville spent last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. H -nry Stamey. * Mrs. Ruby Bales of Rockford, Illinois has been visiting her sisters, Mrs. Mary Cecil Severs and Mrs. Faye Howell of Bald Creek. • Miss Irene Coletta of Atlanta, Georgia spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P.C. Coletta. * Mrs. Ernest Briggs, Mrs. Ralph Jacks, Mrs. W.A.Y. Sargent and Mrs. P.C. Coletta attended a workshop of District II of the North Carolina Women’s Club on Tuesday in Brevard, N.C. Garden Club Holds Picnic The annual Burnsville Garden Club picnic was held at the home of the P.B, Wilsons of Pensacola. Assist ing Mrs. P.B. Wilson with her hostess duties were her two sisters, Mrs. Wayne Ray and Eloise Chase. Despite the rain, it was a lovely affair-with plenty of shelter on the huge porch that was set up with tables and chairs most attractively. As usual, it was a bountiful table, elegantly done. No business was conducted-just a good old fashioned sing-along was enjoyed by all, to the accompaniment of Jim Bing ham and his harmonica. A most pleasant evening. Vows Are Spoken Nelda Fox and Roger Dean Snelson were married July 24 at Burnsville. They went on their honeymoon to Hickory, N.C. and then to Boone for a few days. The couple will make their home in Burns ville. \ At Newdale held but will resume on the following Sunday at the usual hour. A picnic dinner will be spread on the grounds follow ing the morning worship service. All members, former members and,their families, as well as other friends are cordially invited. -7 ■* "i (dr Tx4p\C^ Funeral serviceswere held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Indian Creek Baptist Church. Revs. Jay and Earl Blanken ship officiated and burial was in the Blankenship Family Cemetery. RAYMOND C. PENLAND Raymond C. Penland, 69, of the Paint Gap Community died in an Asheville Hospital Saturday afternoon after a long illness. He was a native of Yjmcey County, son of the late Willard and Mary Pen land and a retired farmer. Surviving are the wife, Lula Plemmons Penland; one daughter, Mrs. Lorene Jones of Asheville; two sons, Cecil Penland of Burnsville and Charles Penland of Arden, N.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Cecil Rice of Fletcher, N.C,, Mrs. Bert Styles and Mrs. Arnold Penland of Burnsville; one brother, Rev. Nathan Penland of Tocoa Falls, Georgia; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at II a.m. in the Paint Gap Presbyterian Church of which he was a deacon. Dr. Wm. H. McCork le and Rev. Walser Penland officiated and burial was in the Penland Family Ceme tery. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Banks of Detroit, Michigan are here for three weeks. * Mrs. Frances Lowe of Wilmington, Delaware, a former resident of Yancey County, is staying at the Nu Wray Inn while visiting friends. * Mr. and Mrs. Frank Perise of Westport, Connecticut were the guests of the Bruce Westalls last Wednesday. * Mrs. Julia Banks is a patient in St. Joseph’s Hospi tal in Asheville. * Mrs. Ruth Blosser Carter of Akron, Ohio is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Wallace Edge and family. On July 1C Mrs. Edge was called to Akron due to the death of her brother, Howard. * Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Higgins of Charlotte, N.C, spent the weekend in Burns ville. Visiting friends and Mr. Higgins mother, Mrs. Horace Hoggins who is in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. * Norma and Terri Fox and Cathy Allen have just return ed home from a 10 day trip to Orlando, Florida. While there they visited Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ketchum, Mr. and Mrs. Butch Adams and Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Allen and Patty. They also visited Disneyworld, Cocoa Beach and spent several days on the . Ketchum’s houseboat on the St. John’s Riyer. * Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Allen celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, July 23, 1975 with a family cookout at their home. Those attending the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Ray and Ramona, Mr. Jodie Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Fox and Terri, Una Mae, Donnie and Cathy Allen. * Dr. Webb’s secretary, Norma Fox and her daughter Terri will be moving to Orlando, Florida sometime in August. Edwards of Burnsville an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Deborah Elaine Edwards to Fairley Rachels Bowen of Laurinburg, N.C. He is the son of Mrs. Fairley L. Bowen and the late Mr. Bowen. Miss Edwards is presently employed by Bi-Lo in Burns ville. She will be attending Pembroke State University in January. Mr. Bowen is employed by WEWO in Laurinburg.
