Mountain Heritage Sports: Teams Victorious Mountain Heritage played their third game of the season against Rosman on Tuesday, December 9, 1975 at home. Jimmy Hughes and Gary Winters netted 17 and 16 points to lead the Cougars to a 68-57 win. The five starters fdr the Cougar boys were Gary Winters, Ken Long, Jimmy Hughes, Eddie King, and Donnie Laws. Their next game will be played on Friday, "December 12, Madi son High Patriots vs. Cougars at home. JV COUGAR BOYS WIN The J.V. Cougar boys played their third game of the season against the Rosman Tigers on Tuesday, December 9, at home. The five starters for the J.V. boys were Victor Adkins, Wade Biddix, Darrell Huskins, Brien Young, and Ricky Miller. Mountain Heritage won the game with a final score of 51-42. GIRLS TEAM SCORES VICTORY OVER ROSMAN Tuesday night, December 9, the Mountain Heritage girls basketball team made a smashing victory over the Rosman Tigers with a score of 54-38. High scorer was Rhonda Fender with 19 points, Marsha Jones made 10 points, Natilie Fox had 6 points, Saundra Fox also 6 points, Gayla McCourry made 4 points,-Linda Foxx made 3 points and Rosalie Young, Pam Hopson and Teresa Ray, 2 points each. The Cougars played a good ballgame, with Coach Thomason coaching. The Cougars stayed ahead the entire game. This was their first victory of the year. JV GIRLS WIN VICTORY OVERENKA On Wednesday, Decem ber 10, Mountain Heritage JV basketball girls played Enka High’s JV girls at East Yancey. Mountain Heritage came out with a victorious score of 42-35. The high scorer was Janice Biggerstaff with 14 points. Debra Norris netted 11 points, Renee Hensley scored 7 points, Carolyn Tipton had 4 points, Carolyn Pritchard, Anita Troup and Cathy McCurry all scored 2 points. JV GIRLS WIN OVER PATRIOTS On Thursday, December Mountain Heritage JV basketball girls traveled to Madison County for their second game of the season. The Cougars came out with a victory of 59-20 over the Madison team. High scorer was Janice Biggerstaff with 11 points. Anita Troup and Anna Webb scored 9 points each, Debra Norris scored 8 points, Carolyn Pritchard netted 5, Paula Williams and Cathy McCurry scored 4 points apiece, Carol Tipton scored 3, Renee Hensley, Kathy Bailey and Harriet Vess all scored 2 points. The five starters for the Cougars were Gary Winters, Ken Long, Eddie King, Tony Byrd and Jimmy Hughes. All five starters scored double fi gures. Gary Winters led with 19 points, Ken Long and Tony Byrd had 16 each, Jimmy Hughes netted 15, and Eddie King scored 10. The final score was 84-71. The Cougars are now ranked 7th with a 3-1 record. Their next game will be played at home on Tuesday, December 16, with the Hen dersonville Bearcats. JV COUGAR BOYS ARE DEFEATED Friday night, December 12, the JV Cougar boys played their fourth game of the season against Madison. The Heritage boys played well the first half and led Madison 41-26. The highest scores were Darryl Huskins with 13, Scotty Westall with 12 points, Brian Young with 11, Wade Biddix with 11, and Ricky Miller, 6 points. The final score, Mountain Heritage 64 to Madison 72. COUGAR GIRLS TEAM IS VICTORIOUS The Cougar girls had a smashing victory over Madi son on December 12. The Cougars were behind at half time with the score 24-30. The rest of the game was fought to a victory with the final score 63-45 in favor Bb;- M Charles Proffitt Celebrates 4th Birthda'i j Master Charles Ray Prof fitt celebrated his fourth birthday on December 5 with a party given in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Proffitt of Burnsville. Those attending the party were his two brothers, Mike and Randy Proffitt; Mr. and Mrs. James Fox of Burnsville; Mr. and Mrs. Otis Proffitt, paternal grandparents, of Bald Creek; Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Proffitt, Jamie and Helen of Bald Creek; Mr. and Mrs. Lattie Stiles, maternal grandparents, of Burnsville. His cake was made by Audrey Davenport of Spruce Pine, his great aunt. The party decorations were yellow and green with clowns on the cake and napkins. of Mountain Heritage. East Yancey Math Club During the month of October, the Math Depart ment of East Yancey High School formed a Math Club. This club consists of students who are enrolled in a math class and who hold an average in that class of 85 or above. Officers for the club are Ken Long, President; Marie Hunter, Vice President; She lia Peterson, Secretary and Treasurer; Janice Biggerstaff, Program Chairman. Mrs. Linda Mr. B.R.
