He had resided in California for the past four years. * Mrs. Faye Howell visited her son, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Howell of Columbus, Ohio, after Christmas. .From there she visited in Honolulu, Hawaii for nine days. * Mrs. Ginny Rogers and two sons, Mark and Chucky of Chattanooga, Tennessee vi sited Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Allen during the past week. * Born to Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Woody of Green Mountain a son, Phillip Gregory, on December 19 in the Spruce Pine Community Hospital. • Born to Mr. and Mrs. David Shepherd of Burnsville a daughter, Mandy Lynn in Memorial Mission Hospital, Asheville on January 7. • Yancey County had at least 4-6 inches of snow and confirmed temperatures as low as 14 degrees below zero over this past weekend. Ben Floyd Elected To 888 Board Ben Floyd, Assistant Vice President, First Citizens Bank in Burnsville was elected to represent Yancey County on the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau of Asheville/Western North Ca rolina. At the Annual Mem bership Meeting of the Better Business Bureau other Direc tors elected in addition to Mr. Floyd to serve with the present 28 members of the Board until 1979 were: Perry Bartsch, Operations Mgr. of Champion Paper; Clay Chandley, Sec.-Treas. of the Johnson-Chandley Lumber Company; Mort Cohn, Vice President WLOS-TV; Dur wood Everett, Senior VP of Wachovia Bank; V.E. Avery Nye, Jr. The state minimum wage and this new law apply to businesses with more than four employees and a gross volume of less than $250,000. Businesses covered by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act are exempt from this law. Copies of the new Uniform Wage Payment Law may be obtained by writing State Inspections and Services, N.C. ROBINSON William J. Robinson, 66, of the West Burnsville Com munity died unexpectedly Monday night at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a retired employee of Mohasco Corporation. Surviving are the wife, Daisy Brown Robinson; one daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Peter son of Burnsville; one sister, Mrs. Amanda Ray of Arden; three brothers, Dan Robinson of Arden, Sam Robinson of Asheville and Geter Robinson of Spartenburg, S.C.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22 in Riverside Baptist Church. Rev. Frank Murphy will officiate and buria' will be in the John Metcalf Cemetery at Horton Creek. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Holcombe Bro thers Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church 30 minutes to the service. ROSALYN ROLAND > Miss Rosalyn Roland, 21, of 17 Pearson Drive, Ashe ville, died Sunday afternoon in an Asheville hospital following a short illness. She was a native of Burnsville, the daughter of Oredia Young Roland of 17 Pearson Drive and the late Frank Roland, and formerly employed at Aston Park Hospital. In addition to the mother, she is survived by a son, Bryant Keith Roland of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Windston Poyser, Mrs. Ro bert King, and Miss Reginia Roland of Asheville; and a brother Alden Roland of Asheville; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Beacher Griffith of Burnsville; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Hattie Roland of Ashe ville; the great grandmother, Mrs. Hattie Young of Ashe ville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Griffith Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Edward Griffith officiated and burial was in the Horton Cemetery. CORA SIMMONS Mrs. Cora Simmons, 77, of the South Toe River Commu nity of Yancey County died unexpectedly Sunday at her home. She was the widow of the late Oscar Simmons who died in 1970. Surviving are one daugh ter, Mrs. James McDougald of Route 5, Burnsville; three sons, Morris Simmons of Burnsville, Clifford Earl Sim- > mons of Magnolia, Mississip pi and Clarence Simmons of Harlon, Ky.; one sister, Mrs. Edgar McNeal of Spruce Pine; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in South Estatoe Baptist Church of which she was a member.
