She was accompanied by a friend, Nancye McCreary, who teaches high school with Alison in Knoxville. • Paddy Downing celebra ted her birthday Sunday with family and friends who gathered at Beams Restaur ant for a birthday dinner. • Mr. L. Henry Read Jr. and his airplane pilot, Clark Gable, spent the weekend at Ogle Meadows. * Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Honeycutt were conduc ted on February 10 at Okalona General Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. Survivors include her hus band, Randy Honeycutt; two daughters, Mrs. Sheila Fister and Mrs. Lagusta Neely; two sons, Randal and Doug, all of Kentucky; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Williams of Burns ville, Bertha Eldridge, and Mrs. Letha Frazier; three brothers, Kelly, Hiram and George Sparkman; several nieces and nephews and 5 grandchildren. * Miss Martha Williams has returned home after spending six weeks in Louisville, Ky. during the illness and death of her sister, Mrs. Eva Honey cutt. * Mr. and Mrs. Lee Laws of Valdese, N.C. visited Mr. Laws’ mother, Mrs. O.L. Laws over the weekend. * Jane and Ronnie Webb came down from Boone on Saturday where Ronnie is attending graduate school, to spend the dav visiting friends. LILLIE HONEYCUTT Mrs. James T. (Lillie) Honeycutt, 71, of the Poplar Community died Saturday afternoon in an Asheville hospital after a long illness. She was the daughter of Mary Cannon Adkins and the late Jule Adkins. Surviving in addition to the mother are the husband, James Honeycutt; five daugh ters, Mrs. Ralph Hyatt of Asheville, Mrs. Rhett Breland of Candler, Mrs. Larry Frazier of Hendersonville, Mrs. E.L. Miller of Burnsville and Mrs. Ralph Jones of Butler, Tenn.; three sons, John and Burgin Honeycutt of Green Mountain and Samuel J. Honeycutt of Pelham, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Quiet of Asheville and Lula Duncan of Weaverv ville; two brothers, Cecil and Willie Adkins of Burnsville; IS grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Peterson’s Chapel Church of the Brethren (at Poplar). Rev. George W. Slagle and Jimmy Griffith officiated and burial was in the Bailey Cemetery at Poplar. Dean’s List Students One student from Yancey County was among the record number of NCSU’s 17,000 students who earned Dean’s List honors for superior academic work during the fall semester. A senior, he is a 1972 graduate of Cane River High School. He is John C. Renfro,' son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Renfro of Route 3, Burnsville, and is studying in mathematics. ★ Eight Burnsville students have been named to the Dean’s List at Western Carolina University for the 1975-76 fall quarter, accord ing to the vice chancellor for academic affairs, Dr. Robert E. They played Bible games, practiced singing songs, and had refreshments. * Ina Quinn has been released from St. Joseph’s Hospital after having surgery. She is a junior at East Yancey High School. Burke, Webb Are Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Joseph Burke of Wrightsville Beach announce the engage ment of their daughter Kellie to Melvin Walter Webb II of Burnsville. The couple will be married May 1 in Wil mington. Miss Burke is a student at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Randolph of Route 4, Burnsville, a son, Jason Wade Randolph. Jason was bom at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. He weighed 7 lbs and 10 oz. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. R.L. It’s delicious! BUNNY’S FAVORITE SOUP By Bunny Guyer Start with as much chicken and vegetable stock as you have. Add water and Boullion cubes to make 3 quarts. Add some chopped cabbage and chopped carrote, chopped celery, green beans and black eyed peas, salt and pepper, parsley, rosemary, cooking sherry and Worcestershire sauce. Cook 2 hours-add Vi package of very thin noodles and some chunks of chicken would be good too. Cook 2‘/i hours. CORN FRITTERS 2 cups corn-fresh or canned 1 tsp. salt 1/8 tsp. pepper Student On Deans List Several students from Yancey County were among the 250 Mars Hill College 1 students named to the Dean’s 1 List for the fall term. 1 The students include Doris < Judy Ballew Deyton, Charles * February 26 and 27 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday afternoon, February 29 from 2-4 p.m. The play will have a 13-member cast, with 6 men and 7 women. Fry 2-3 minutes at 360-370 degrees. GEORGE WASHINGTON PUDDING 1 (16 oz) can of red tart pitted cherries-undrained lVi cup sugar, divided Vi cup milk 1 tsp. baking powder 2 Tblsp. butter or marg. Combine cherries and 1 cup sugar.' Stir until sugar is dissolved. Combine Vi cup sugar, milk, baking powder flour. Then blend until Smooth. Melt butter in an 8 inch baking pan. Spoon in batter, spreading well. Pour cherry mixture over butter. Bake at 350 degrees tor 45-55 minutes or until done. The bride, escorted by her father, wore a gown of white chrystaline with empire styl- Mayland Tech Course In Erosion Control Mayland Technical Insti tute and Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey Soil Conservation Offices are planning to offer a course in Erosion and Sedi mentation Control. The pro gram will be 15 hours or five, three hour session beginning March 9 through March 23. Persons wishing to take the course will need to pre-register at Mayland Tech nical Institute no later than February 23.
