UNC-G]. I would like to have you print It in the Journal as It could serve to answer many inquiries I have been receiving from Burnsville folk. Sincerely, Lauren K. [Woody] Woods “Dr. David BatcheUer Drama and Speech UNC-G, Greensboro, N.C. Dear David: I am writing to thank yon for your offer to return to Parkway Playhouse this season. My response, I believe, will come as little surprise to you who know me so well. After digesting Dr. JeUlcorse’s letter which informed me of my dismissal as Managing Director, reading the terms of your proposed appointment, and studying the new student brochure, I now realize that my reluctance to return to Burnsville can be synthesized into one reason-to become a subordinate, staff-director after eight years of managing the playhouse successfully would represent a giant step backwards for me. I just can’t take It. It should be made clear that I wanted very badly to be part of the anniversary season, that my love for the playhouse and the Town of Burnsville has not diminished but has grown deeper and that my decision is not altogether popular in my home and with many of my Monmouth students who wished to study with me this summer. Furthermore, that while I will therefore be pursuing my professional acting career this summer, this is really the effect of my Parkway decision, not the cause. Finally, I am deeply thankful to all of those people responsible for the marvelous times my family has had these past thirteen years In Yancey County. We have been very happy there and the memories will endure for many years. My Ellen, Kenny and Jennifer and I all sincerely hope that one day the situation will be such that we can once again share the indescribable beauty of the mountains and the warm fellowship of her people. As always, Lauren K. Woods” Sierra Club Plans Hike I On Saturday, April 17, an eight mile hike from the Blue Ridge Parkway to Lane’s Pinnacle is planned by the Western North Carolina Group of the Sierra Club.
