To Celebrate Ninety-Fifth Birthday Sunday Mr. Brant Chrisawn of the South Toe River Section of Yancey County will celebrate his 95th birthday on Sunday, April 18. He will be at home with his daughter, Mrs. Dixie Mayberry. His children, in addition to Mrs. Mayberry, are: Mrs. Effie McCurry of Asheville, N.C.; Mrs. Mabel Bowman of Burlington, N.C.; Emory Chrisawn of Celo, N.C.; and Earl Chrisawn of Sumter, S.C. At present Brant resides at Haven Heights Rest Home. ..Wins Merit Award For Poetry Katrinia Adkins of Route 4, Burnsville was awarded special merit for “i am a poem” which was entered in the fifth annual poetry coih petition sponsored jointly by the Peace College student literary magazine “Prism” and the North Carolina Arts Council. Awards were presented during a poetry workshop festival on the Peace campus Saturday, April 10. Poems written by 69 high school students from throughout the state, including Katrinia’s, have been published in the 1976 issue of Peace College’s “Emerging Voices” literary magazine. Some 216 students entered the competition this year. Katrinia is a twelfth grade student at Cane River High School. Mrs. Thanna Davis is her teacher. Important Meeting Set There will be a very important meeting of the Burnsville Garden Club on Thursday, April 22. The meeting will be held in the hocne of Mrs. Charles Proffitt at three o'clock. All members are urged to attend the meeting. Webb of Green Mountain and Raymond Al len, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Allen of Burnsville were united in marriage March 26, 1976 at 7:00 p.m. at the North Bend Baptist Church. A double ring cere mony was performed by Reverend Kenneth L. Leiter man. The bride, escorted by her father, wore a floor length empire gown with a v-shaped neckline. Her veil of silk illusion was attached to a Camelot cap of matching lace, sprinkled with white roses. She carried a bouquet of white carnations and yellow roses with yellow and white stream ers attached. Mrs. Pat Randolph ot Burnsville was matron of honor. She wore a bright yellow polyester floor length gown with a ruffled v-shaped neckline and long sleeves with a ruffle around the wrists. She wore a pale yellow floppy hat with a green ribbon and carried a bouquet of white tarnations with a yellow rose in the center and yellow and white streamers." Miss Dornetta Elkins of Burnsville was maid of honor. Her gown was like that of the matron of honor and her bouquet was also made of white carnations with a yellow rose centered in it. Miss Tammy Peterson, cousin of the bride of Erwin, Tennessee was the flower girl. She wore a yellow dress with a white lace cap and carried a little white basket with yellow ribbons tied on "• rs April Parker Celebrates First Birthday Tiffney April Parker was one-year-old on April 13, 1976. The couple will live in Burnsville. 1I I I Rhonda Fox Fox And Parrish To Wed Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Fox, 4528 Dare Avenue, Winston Salem, N.C. announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Miss Rhonda Leigh Fox to Mr. Marty Jay Parrish. Mr. Parrish is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hugh Parrish of 300 Brookline, Winston Salem, N.C. The couple are juniors at East Carolina University.
