Mrs. Asher accom panied her back to spend the summer at her home here. * Mr. and Mrs. Leland Westall and Anne of Charles ton, S.C. spent Memorial Day weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Westall. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Westall and Phil Ray also spent Sunday with them. • Miss Mary Louise Wray with fourteen other girls, all of who attend St. Mary’s High School in Raleigh, attended a house party in Atlantic Beach last week. * Rob Stevenson of Swan nanoa, N.C. is working as a desk clerk at the Nu Wray Inn this summer. He is a rising junior at UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. * Mrs. Troy Ray with Mr. and Mrs. Roger Derrough of Asheville attended the gra duation of their daughter, Miss Julia Derrough at East Carolina University at Green ville, N.C. Miss Derrough is the granddaughter of Mrs. Ray. * Mrs. Horace Higgins was admitted to Yancey Hospital last week for treatment. * Ray Sorrell, formerly of Burnsville and now of Kings port, Tenn., was in town Thursday visiting friends. • Joey Biggerstaff spent the weekend with his sister, Mrs. Lawrence Caviness and Mr. Caviness in Raeford, N.C. « James Ray of Miami, Florida spent last week with his mother, Mrs. Hobert Ray. • Mrs. W.W. Magill and daughter of Lexington, Ky. visited relatives and attended the funeral of Mrs. Magill’s sister, Mrs. Evelyn Hensley King who died in Yancey Hospital last week. * ‘ r Everett Kivette of Paint ing in the Mountains has just returned to his home and studio on Phillips Knob. Mr. Kivette has «-ecently returned from Scotland where he has been studying and traveling. He spent considerable time in research at the General Register House in Edinburg in preparation for writing a book ont he early 18th century Highland Scots mi gration to North Carolina. He has this last week started his new spring painting classes in his studio. These began May 24 and will continue through the first week in June. After this he and John Bryans will conduct their usual summer and fall classes here. Those dates are July 12-August 20 and October 4-October 22^ * | " Mr. and Mrs. James Ramsey of Suitland, Md. visited Mrs. Ramsey’s mother and other relatives, hjjrs. Sue Bailey returned home with them for a visit. * Mrs. Reece Mclntosh is a patient in St. Joseph’s Hospi tal in Asheville. * Mr. and Mrs. Philip Styles and Mr. and Mrs. Alan Styles spent last week with Mrs. Styles’ mother, Mrs. Mabel Ramsey in Alexandria, Va. * Mrs. P.C. Coletta return ed recently from a trip to Atlanta, Ga. and St. Louis, Mo. While in Atlanta she visited her daughter Irene and her son Joe and family and attended the ballet recital of her granddaughter, Robin. While in St. Louis she visited her daughter Francis, and attended the opening night of St. Louis Pops Concert. * Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilson and family of Lenoir visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mclntosh and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Wilson over Memorial Day weekend. * Chuck Aldridge graduated from ASU at Boone last week and will be working at Carolina Hemlock this sum mer. * i Danny Ayers of Washing ton, D.C. is visiting his father, Willard Ayers who is a patient in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Asheville. * Basil Bailey spent the weekend in Burnsville visiting friends and relatives. * Reece Taylor is a patient in Spruce Pine Hospital. * John Edd Taylor of Vir ginia spent the weekend visiting relatives here in Burnsville. * The Grassy Creek Fire Department will continue their Rummage Sale through this week. Deyton of Burnsville, graduated from Berry Col lege, Rome, Georgia, on May 30, 1976. Miss Hunter, graduating Summa Cum Laude, was awarded a Bache lor of Arts Degree in English; Mrs. Good, graduating Mag na Cum Laude, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics. They were two of two hundred, forty eight students to receive degrees. While a student at Berry, Janice Hunter ° Janice was a member of the “Ramifications” Literary Ma gazine staff, the YWCA, The Student Association of Educa tors and the Alpha Chi Honor Society. She was a Dana Scholar and was awarded the Pendley English Teaching Award in recognition of outstanding work as a student teacher in English. Mrs. Good was a Dana jy* Jm m 4m Cathy Good Scholar member during all four years at Berry and was elected to Alpha Chi Honor Society at the end of her junior year. She also became a member of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Extra-curricular activities in cluded: vice president of the Junior Class, Treasurer and Projects Chairman, Berry; Chapter, Georgia State Home Economics Association, class representative in the Miss Viking Court, and 3rd runner up in the Miss Berry Pageant. Cathy and her husband, Michael Good, have moved to. Yancey County where he will be associated with Deyton Farm Supply.
