Student On Mars Hill ■% - • Deans List Robert R. Chapman, As sociate Dean for Academic Affairs at Mars Hill College, has announced that 281 Mars Hill College students were named to the Dean’s List for the spring term. Among these students were Amanda Ben nett, Barbara Buckner, Charles Dulaney, Lynne En glish Hensley, Ruth Bennett Labdon, Randy Robinson and Monty Joe Whitson, all of Yancey County. To be named to this honor, 4 student must maintain a grade point ratio of 3.5 or better on minimum of 12 semester hours of study, and riot receive any grade below a C for one or both semesters. Mars Hill bases its grades on a four-point system, with an A representing four points, a B representing three points, etc. Dividend. __ Declared On July 29, 1976, the Directors of Northwestern financial Corporation declar jjd a quarterly dividend ftSayment of 7.5 cents per share. The dividend will be payable on October 1, 1976, to stockholders of record Sep tember 20, 1976. Ki % I 1 S V vg ANMP l * M '~a’» life ‘South Pacific’ At Parkway SOUTH PACIFIC, Rodgers and Hammerstefn's popular musical, is being performed at Parkway Playhouse in Burnsville, August 4-7 and August 10-14 at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $3.50 for adults and $2.25 for pre-coilege students. Partway is closing its thirtieth season by running the musical for two weeks because of Its popularity. THE SOUND OF MUSIC, also by Rodgers and Hammerstein, broke previous sales records for a show at Parkway in 1975. Dr. John Joy is directing SOUTH PACIFIC and also directed THE SOUND OF MUSIC. His cast features six professional performers and guest artist Luvenia Garner who will portray “Bloody Mary.” Amy Young from Asheville and Brian Buchanan from Burnsville [both pictured above] will be playing the two children’s roles in the show. College students from all areas of the country who comprise the Parkway Company will complete the cast. South Toe Firemsji Complete Arson Detection Course Six members of the South Toe Volunteer Fire Depart ment recently participated in a 12 hour Arson Detection course held at McDowell Tech in Marion. Firefighters and police officers from a six county area attended the course which was given Thursday and Friday even ings, and all day Saturday, July 22-24. The instructor was Calvin F. Beck, of Cary, N.C., a well-known authority in this field. Those attending from the STVFD were Chief John V. Morgan, Capt. Gavriel Gold stein, Lt. George Powers and Firefighters David Gelling, Ben Geouge and Brian Yaffe. During the Saturday ses sion, Mr. Beck and his assistants arranged for the burning of an old house, demonstrating many of the arson techniques discussed in the classroom sessions, in order to give participants experience in looking for evidence of arson. Several months ago some ’49 Class Reunion ’ The Burnsville High Class of 1949 will have a class reunion Saturday night, Au gust 7, at the home of Phillip and Mary Vance Banks.
