Mildred Gets 5-Year Pin
Mildred the Bear's 450 pounds and Leigh Ann Medford’s
45 pounds give them a weight difference ratio of 10 to 1, but
they are alike by the fact that they are both Girl Scouts and
obviously good friends. On Giri Scout Day at Grandfather
Mountain Leigh Ann wisely decided to present Mildred’s
5-year pin in a frame rather than pin it on. Mildred helped raise
more than $2,000 this week for the Girl Scouts in 17 North
Carolina counties in the Pisgsth Council of which Yancey
County is a part. Leigh Ann is the 7-year old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ronald Medford of Linville Falls and Mildred is
Grandfather Mountain’s mascot and best known citizen.

make possible the awarding of
approximately SIOOO in aid to
Mayland Tech students.
Mayland Tech welcomes
any contributions, large or

and pledges to use these to
the greatest advantage of
students needing financial
aid. Anyone wishing to make
