Brandy is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Roger Hemphill of Burnsville. > % jr 4/ Aimee McCurry Bald Creek Students Write Their News Some students at Bald Creek Elementary School are writing their own ‘weekly Reader’ and enjoying the experience. Editors of the We Can Reader are Jerry Ed wards, Ricky Laws, and Rebecca Shepherd, under the guidance of Miss Bennett, their teacher. The subjects are varied and written, children style, with attention to what they consider most important; but when the paper is printed, they learn from reading their own stories how to submit a better story next week. Following are a few articles from the We Can Reader: VACATION . By Carolyn Shepherd 1 went to Carowinds for my vacation. 1 rode rides and saw shows. We camped out for two weeks. We went to sjeep at 11:00 p.m. and got up at 8:45 a.m. We rode more rides. The roll-a-coaster was the best ride. And you do get wet on the water log! TRIP TO FRONTIERLAND By Jerry Edwards The Pleasant Valley Church wfent to Frontierland on June 17, 1976. We rode the train. Then we rode the bumper cars. Then we rode the blue slide. We stayed from 10:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon. We all had a picnic. Flea Market The Burnsville Woman’s Club will hold a Flea Market on Saturday, October 9, in the lot across from Glen Raven Mills. There will be home baked and canned foods, clothing, and household fur nishings and other flea market items. It will open at 9:00 a.m. VACATION IN FLORIDA By Rebecca Shepherd I went to Florida on my vacation and I had a nice trip. Then I went to Disney World. I had fun there, too. I went to Sea World and I rode the bumper cars. I also went to Carowinds. I got on the Water Log. My family went also. BLUE By Veronica Abight Blue is the sky, My father’s tie, The sea, the ocean, A bluebird in motion. WORKING IN TOBACCO By Ricky Laws I stayed out of school and worked in tobacco and I suckered tobacco and carried sticks. It is our family’s tobacco and we finished it. District II Meeting Slated The fall meeting of District II of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs will be held on Saturday, October 2, at the Swiss Chalet, Little Switzer land. Mrs. James W. John son, State President from Thomasville, and Mrs. L. Murrie Lee, Third Vice-Pres ident from Wilmington, will attend and act as guest speakers. The members will gather at 9:30 a.m. for the coffee hour, presided over by tne Burnsville Woman’s Club. The meeting will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Geneva Hall. Co-hosts for the occasion are the Burnsville Woman’s Club and both Spruce Pine Wo men’s Clubs. Luncheon at The Chalet will conclude the meeting.
