The barbe cue luncheon, catered by members of the Burnsville Lions Gub, was prepared and served at Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church. According to Bill Haines, Lions Club President and Lion John C. Robert W. Howard, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Howard of Burnsville, grad uated from the Marine Corp Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Tuesday, November 9, 1976. Pvt. Howard entered the Marine Corp back in April and reported to duty August 16. He spent 3 months of training at Parris Island. He is to report to Camp LeJeune, North Carolina for Duty and Field Skill Training/Qualify on November 20, 1976. His Military Occupation Specialty is in the field of Field Artillery. Pvt. Pendley, whose wife: Billie is the daughter of Mrs. Dessie M. Wilson of Burnsville, N. was a crewmember of the aircraft carrier / USS Oriskany, which was decom missioned on September 30. .L The Oriskany was the last fully operational Essex-class aircraft carrier. She was towed to Bremerton, Wash ington, for storage with other inactivated “mothballed” Navy ships.
