Students will be able to browse and purchase books. The book fair will be open during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Books will be on display in the Library. The book fair committee invites all students, parents and visitors to attend the fair. The fair will encourage students’ interest in reading and in building home libra ries, and will also contribute to a worthwhile project. All profits will be used for books, audio-visual material and other supplies. The project is sponsored by Mrs. Cathy Good, Librar ian, and will be aided by members of the Beta Club. The book fair display will include attractive new books from many publishers in all popular price ranges: wond erful books to read or to give as gifts. All reading interests will be represented, including classics, fiction, biographies, adventure stories, science, nature, crafts, mystery and reference books. ' Local Students Are Contestants Fifteen Mountain Heri tage High School students will be among the contestants at Western Carolina Universi ty’s seventh annual High School Mathematics Contest, to be held April 28 in Hoey Auditorium at WCU. A total of 601 students from 44 WNC high schools will compete for top honors in four contest divisions--alge bra I, geometry, algebra U, and comprehensive. The five highest-scoring contestants in each division will be awarded certificates of merit, and plaques will be presented to the three senior high schools and one junior high school whose students earn the highest average scores. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend Raymond Love in The Chapel of Love at Lake Tahoe. Mr. Winebarger is the son of the former Minnie Ross Ramsey and the grandson of the late Hiram Ramsey of Yancey County. He is well known throughout California and Nevada as a former bass guitar player in The Dick Dale Show, appearing in Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, and throughout the Los Angeles area. The young couple will reside in Fresno, California where Mr. Winebarger is affiliated with Radio Shack stores of The Tandy Corporation. Mrs. Winebarger is employed by The Sheraton Hotels as a model for TV commercials and brochures. cellor H.F. Robinson will present scholarship awards to the top winners in the senior level comprehensive division who elect to attend WCU as freshmen. Mountain Heritage High School mathematics teacher Charles A. Hawkins will sponsor the students at the contest. Laßach Concert Slated A program of songs composed by Parker Laßach will be presented in the next Music in the Mountains concert on Tuesday, April 19, at 8 o’clock in the Presbyter ian Church, Burnsville. Julie Fortney, soprano, will be the soloist. She is Assistant Professor of Voice at Mars Hill College and ’ soloist at All Souls Church in Asheville. The pianist will be Dan Hardin who is a graduate of Mars Hill College and organist at the First Baptist Church of Asheville. The song selected for the program range from serious to humorous, secular to sacred, and include a number of settings of poems for children. Before coming to live near Spruce Pine, Dr. Laßach taught music and education at Kent State University, Syra cuse University, and else where, and has been an active composer as well.
