United In Marriage . I
Kathy Anne Hedrick and Thurman Darrell Briggs were
married at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2 at the Big Creek Baptist
Church. Rev. J.D. Price conducted the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hedrick of
the Big Creek Community. Briggs is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Thurman Briggs of Route S, Burnsville, N.C.
The bride is a graduate of Cane River High School and is
presently employed with Joel Togs of Burnsville. The
' bridegroom is a graduate of East Yancey High School and is

Poster Contest Winner
Veronica Higgins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Quinton
Higgins, had the first place 4-H Safety Poster in Yancey
County. Veronica’s poster was sent to Greensboro for the state
competition. Because She was the county winner, she had a
choice of either a bicycle maintenance kit, or a scholarship to
4-H Camp. Veronica is 10 years old and attends Bee Log
Elementary School, where she is in the fourth grade.
