Mission Study Concluded The mission study on the countries of Southern Africa was recently concluded by a group at Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church. The textbook “Torment to Triumph in Southern Africa” wasJhe basis for the study led by Rev. Joe Ward. Mr. Ward, being very knowledgeable about the geography, culture, peoples and politics of Africa, aided the group to better £f understand the political, ra cial and economic struggles being experienced there. Other participants in pre senting information about Southern Africa were Charles Aldridge who spoke on conditions in Southwest Af rica (Namibia), Betty Mot singer-Rhodesia; Phyllis Bail ey-status of African women; Marvin Holland-Apartheid in South Africa; Mary Ann afterwards. The two plays are being directed by Rhonda Dry, with Donna Shore assistant director. Production staff includes Dry, Stage Manager; Bunny Bennett, Technical Director; Dejla Ogilvie and Dorothy McHugh, Costume Designers; Linda Lawhem, Makeup. The cast for “Snow White” includes Lindi Budd, Julie Guemple, Phyllis Downing, Linda Johnson, Tim Thompson, Della Ogilvie, Craig Budd, Gall Deyton, Sandy Chereshkoff, Jim Priesmeyer, Theresa SDver, Donna Shore and Peggy McQuade. The "Ugly Duckling" cast includes Philip Shore, Carmela Mandala, Bill Perldns, Tasha Harvey, Linda Johnson, Neel Keller, and Tim Thompson. The reports heard, Film strips viewed, books read, questions asked, all helped the group as Christians to realize anew what it means to be part 1 of the world wide mission of Christ’s church. They shared together during s&nrf£st session their views on what they can do individuall and collectively to meet the challenge in Southern Africa. According to a group spokesman, it was a stimulat ing, thought-provoking study which required participants to take a close look at their own failings and sharpened their vision about their own society- Riding Club For Cherokee Children BY MAXI WALLS It was a long miserable winter with not too much to do in Cherokee, so a group of parents with school age children decided to form a Family Riding Club. They met every weekend and made plans and elected officers for the new club. We hope to have a family oriented club with both parents and children taking an active part in the activities. First we have to learn proper riding procedure, safety rules and animal care and good sportsmanship. Given a chance a child with a horse to feed and care for is less likely to find time to fall into the wrong crowd or find time to get into trouble. Besides pride of ownership, these children need respon sibility. We are having our first Annual Horse Show May 8 this year and by then we hope to have both parent and child working together in good clean outdoor fun. Out of 48 classes, folks from all over the county should be able to find a class to suit them. The new officers are: President, Robert Orr; Vice President, Robert Young; Secretary, Kathy Phillips; Treasurer, Jesse Murphy; Public Relations, Brenda Jor dan; WNC Horse Show Coordinator, Maxi Walls; Equestrian Instructor, Maxi Walls. Members of the Board of Directors are: 3rd year Dale Phillips and Harold Parsons; 2nd year Tom Jordan and Paul Hyde; one year Jeff Muskrat. This new club is sanction ed by the Rocking Horse Breeders Association of America. More details on the show will be available soon. For more information call Maxi Walls 682-7271.
