May 14, at the University’s 88th annual commencement in Reynolds Coliseum. The North Carolina stu dents were among those repognized for superior scho lastic achievement and lead ership. Their names and Grads Get Awards Medals, prizes, scholar ships, and individual recogni tions were awarded to a number of students and faculty at Mars Hill College during the school’s Honors Pay program Wednesday, May 4. Nearly 270 students were singled out for recogni tion. Each sibling class entered two finalists. This group of 24 winners facW a spelldown in front of tha entire student body. Their + new president is Kim Aldridge who campaigned with hopes of getting more cooperation from + students and faculty members. She is planning to put forth and accomplish positive new ideas. + Kim feels she’ll be working with the students as individuals and getting their ideas put into action. Sue Wilson was elected Vice President. She campaigned to help the President in any way possible. T Kim Bradley, an uprising junior, was elected to the position of Secretary. She is planning to help * the student body to get their ideas across, and will put forth her greatest effort in this aim. David " Perkins was chosen Treasurer. He feels that he could be relied upon to honestly handle the money . entrusted to him. The new Student Council members were elected May 20. The sponsors for this . group are Mrs. Zuver, Miss Elaine Mr. Cox. The students are anticipating an outstanding - year next year and these new officers are willing to do everything possible to see that it is * successful. Webb of Burnsville was one of more than 100 students and faculty members at Western Carolina University to be honored at W WCU’s annual awards night program. Webb received the Politi cal Science Outstanding Gra duate Award. A 1972 gradu ate of East Yancey High School, Webb is a dean’s list student and has served as a superior court justice in WCU’s student goverment association.
