PAGE 10 THE YANCEY JOURNAL JULY 14,1977 NORA DENNETT FOX • - -• Mrs. Nora Bennett Fox, 98, of the Upper Jacks Creek Community of Yancey County died Friday in Yancey Hospi tal after a long illness. She was the widow of Tilmon Fox who died in 1945. e Surviving are four daugh ters, Mrs. Sam Blevins of Green Mountain and Mrs. Lark Wright. Mrs. Willard Wright and Mrs. Comer Ogle of Burnsville; three sons, James and Isaac Fox of Burnsville and Carson Fox of Chucky, Tenn.; 59 grand children, 115 great-grand children and 18 great grand children. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. Fred Allen, Kermit Kennedy and Max Gortney officiated and burial was in the Wilson Cemetery. DORIS B. DUERSON Doris Bowditch Duerson, 47, of 48 Courtland Avenue, Asheville, and a former resident of Burnsville died in an Asheville hospital Thurs day, July 7, after a short illness. She was the daughter of Flora Henson Anderson of Asheville and the late Alfred Bowditch. Surviving are the hus band, Henry Duerson; the step-father, Curley James Anderson of Asheville; one brother, Raymond Bowditch of Asheville; three sisters, Mrs. Winfred Kyle of Burns ville, Mrs. Lucinda Ray of Mars Hill and Mrs. Ella Waters of Asheville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Edd Griffith officiated and burial was in the Horton Cemetery. RUBEN HANEY Memorial services for Ruben Haney, 57, of the Little Creek section of Yancey County, who died Saturday, July 9, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Bee Log Baptist Church. Rev. Frank Murphy officiated. A native of Yancey Coun ty, he was a veteran of World War 11. —t He was the father of Lisa Haney, who was injured last November in a school bus accident and who has since been the beneficiary of several funds, including the Lisa Haney/Handicapped Children’s Fund. Surviving in addition to his daughter are the widow, Mrs. Kathleen Williams Haney; two other daughters, Miss Stella Haney of the home and Mrs. Jerry Pate of Green Mountain; two sons, David and Russell Haney of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Janie Johnson of Burnsville and Mrs. Mollie Quinn of Spar tanburg, S.C.; a brother, Arcemus Haney of Burnsville; a half sister, Mrs. Mable Griswold of Asheville; and a granddaughter. Holcombe Brothers Fu neral Home was in charge of the arrangements. BUTE M. RECTOR Blite M. Rector, 85, of Marion died early Friday morning, July 8, in Marion General Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Rector was a retired employee of the North Caro line Wildlife Resources Com mission, having been with them for 25 years, and was stationed at Mount Mitchell Game Refuse for several years. Surviving are the wife, Mrs. Bertha Jones Rector; one son, Alvoid Rector of Marietta, Ga.; 6 daughters, Mrs. Ruth Anderson and Mrs. Elsie McDaniel, both of Note Os Thanks The sympathy and under standing of all our friends has helped so much to lighten the burden of our sorrow. Young, 78, of Shoal Creek, Route 2, Burns ville, died Wednesday 1 ;' July 6, at noon in an Asheville hospital following a long illness. A native of Yancey County he was the son of the late Will and Eunice Hilliard Young and a retired trucker and cattle farmer. Surviyjjng are the wife, Ena Robertson Young; four daughters, Miss Mildred Young of Burnsville, Mrs. V.A. (Hope) Wilson of Swan nanoa, Mrs. Helen King of New Orleans, La. and Mrs. Madge Moyer of Jacksonville, Florida; four sons, Ralph, Earl and Bruce Young of Burnsville and Ray Young of Pensacola, Florida; three half brothers, Terrell, Jim and Carl Young of Burnsville; five half-sisters, Mrs. Belle Grif fith, Mrs. Grace Wyatt, Mrs. Elizabeth Huskins, Mrs. Sar ah Allen of Burnsville, and Mrs. Mable Letterman of Spruce Pine; and 17 grand children. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Shoal Creek Baptist Church of which he was a member. Revs. Lee Ayers and Mack Hodge officiated and burial was in the Pete Young Cemetery. W. LONNIE ALLEN W. Lonnie Allen, 77, of Burnsville died Wednesday morning, July 6, in a Black Mountain Hospital following a long illness. He was a native of Yancey County, a son of the late Dock and Zilla Hensley Allen. He was employed by French Broad E.M.C. from 1942 until his retirement in 1965 and was an electrical contractor. His wife, Addie Smith Allen died in 1976. Surviving are three daugh ters, Mrs. Wilma Ketchum of Orlando, Florida, Mrs. Thel ma Redmon of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Barbara Ray of Burnsville; a son, Jack Allen of Burnsville and a daughtpr-in-law, Mrs. Una Mae Allen of Burnsville; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Chism of Arkansas and Mrs. Julia Banks of Burnsville; a bro ther, Rev. Newland Allen of Lawndale, N.C.; ten grand children and 3 great grand children. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church.
