Leo Schnupp flew in to spend some time with Mrs. Schnupp and daughter Linda Peacock as well as granddaughter Kelly. ** The Pinders entertained their son and daughter-in Music In The Mountains . Series In Full Swing The Music in the Moun tains chamber music series is in full swing with the complete complement of the Celo Chamber Players now in residence. With a woodwind quintet, a string quartet, a piano and harpsichord, music director Frank Ell is able to put together varied programs with many different combina tions of instrumentation. For the third concert, Ell has selected Piston’s Trio for Woodwinds, a Haydn string quartet (Opus 33 N 0.2) and the Beethoven Quintet for Piano and Winds. This will be performed July 23 in Swan nanoa, July 24 in Burnsville and July 28 in Henderson ville. The Celo Chamber Players Mountain Heritage j-i Marching Band The Mountain Heritage High School Marching Band will open marching season with a picnic Monday, August 15th at the home of Mrs. Lisa Mauney, band director. Every marching band student is invited to come out about 10:00 a.m. for lots of fun. Bring your sandwich for lunch and the drinks will be furnished. The fun and games will be over at 2:00 p.m. The percussion section of the band should plan to meet at the high school on Friday, August 12 at 10:00. They will practice a couple of hours with Cattail Creek News law, the Gary Pinders of Cummings, Georgia as well as Nat and Edgar Zummult of Miami, Florida. •• Julie Heckart and Willie Elements took off for Atlanta while Mrs. Elements daugh ter and family, the Cifaldi’s took over her cabin for a few weeks. are in residence at Warren Wilson College in Swanna noa, where concerts are presented each Saturday evening at 8 o’clock in the Kittredge Community Arts Center. The concert is then repeated on Sunday at 3:30 in the Presbyterian Church in Burnsville and on Thursday at 8:00 in Hendersonville in the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 900 Blyth Street. The concert series is supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency and by contributions from individ uals, corporations and foun dations. Tickets are on sale at the door. This weekend, July 22 and 23, Music in the Mountains the drum majors. It is very important that each member of the percussion section is present. The marching band jvih-be performing at the following football games this fall: September 9, 30, October 14, 21-all home games. On September 16 the band will travel to Tuscola High School and on October 28 the band will go to Hendersonville High School. After the picnic on August 15, the band will practice every morning from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. until school starts. . *• Rev. Bozeman and Phyllis have had a few days to enjoy their lovely cabin before reporting for conference at Lake Junaluska. _•« The “Lake Tahoe” cabin has been the scene of a family reunion for the Wood family of Gates, Tenn., the Wood rj will also sponsor a chamber music weekend for amateurs on the campus of Warren Wilson College. This is an opportunity for experienced amateur musicians to work on chamber music under the supervision of some of the Celo Chamber Players. ' I ' Shriners Barbecue c; Sponsored The Mountaineer Shrine Cub will sponsor a Barbecue Chicken Dinner on Saturday, July 23 starting at 4 o’clock p.m. and lasting until well into the evening when hope fully everyone is served. ,V The Barbecue Chicken Dinners will be served at the Bakersville Fire Department in Bakersville, Bulade&n School in Buladean, First Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, and Green Valley Community Center in Ingallii The price of the Barbecue Chicken Dinners will be $2.50 per plate. Tickets are on sale now from Nobles of the Mountaineer Shrine Club or they can be purchased at the four sale locations on Satur day, July 23. All proceeds from the dinners will go to the Shriner? Hospitals for crippled and burned children.
