Mitchell Crafts Fair The 21st annual Mi. Mlichell Craftsmens Fair Is in full swing; the town is a|ve with activity, booths are being built on the square; last mhiute arrangements are being Bade with Craftsmen, batbecuers, builders, etfertainers, hosts, and hostesses. Visitors are arriving filling up hotels, motels, campgrounds, and the homes of residents who roll out the red carpel and roll-away beds; and display their manners, '.Afcia, and hospitality. The small town of Burnsvfße is eqfoying the peak of its tourist season with a festive array of entertaining activities. This year’s fair will offer a large number and wider range of Craftsmen than previous years. Over 130 Craftspeople bom as far away as New Haven, Connecticut, and Miami, Florida will gather on the square and display such varied talents as nallcrafting and sandpainting. Familiar names such as Luther Thomas, Bertha Bennett and > Thomas Oates will hang alongside such newcomers as Marian Klemezak, Vicki Love, and Marion Fall. Popular demonstrations such as Mrs. Bertha Byrd’s apple butter will be Joined by the turning of Charles Thomases’ gris mill and Cell Whitebrook’s welding and soldering of metal sculpture. jsome added features of this year’s Fair will be supervised parking lots for visitors and bee shuttle bus service to and bom the square. The Craftsmen will keep their booths open until 8:00 p.m. Friday to accommodate latecomers and those who work during the day. The barbecue pit will be extended to serve upward of two thousand chicken dinners. Tickets for the barbecue will be sold early Saturday morning to shorten the length of the serving line. Entertainment will include square «i«nolwg and clogging, baqjo picking, and folk singing bom many of the participants in this year’s Youth Jamboree as well as special presentations by “Campers in the Forest” and Gretchen Robinson. Many of the Craftspeople will demonstrate their skills. There will be horse-shoe pitching for those with strong backs and children’s gaiqes for those with nimble feet. A Certain aspects of the Fab will remain the same-the same friendly openness of the townspeople and merchants, the same delicious flavor of barbecue chicken, the same hustle and bustle of crowds inspecting Craftsmen’s wares, enjoying games or relaxing on the village green.
