Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sanders of Hagers town, Md. visited with them. • Mrs. Elizabeth Hensley whose mobile home was badly damaged during the flood is living at the Nu Wray Inn while her home is being repaired. Donald, the son of Mrs. Mae Stiles and. the late Glenn Stiles now operates the farm; After the flood the only way you can get up in there is by h four wheel drive truck. If you miss the truck, you just have to foot it about Vi mile. After we had our turkey dinner which was spread out in the barn on a little table which was owned by Mama Jane, the grandchildren of Granny Mae played cowboy and indians, climbed in the barn like monkeys and jump ed branches like rabbits. Some of the family cracked walnuts for a cake to be baked on Sunday. But the most important thing was Donald getting us back to working tobacco. We all had a good time and we want to thank God for it. Armed Forces Report The U.S. Air Force has promoted Basil A. Mcdoug ald, son of Mr. and Mrs. James McDougald of Route 5, Burnsville, N.C., to the rank of master sergeant. Sergeant McDougald is serving at Charleston AFB, S.C., as an automatic flight control superintendent. The sergeant is a 1965 graduate of East Yancey High School. His wife, Betty, is the daughter of Mrs. Dollie Boone of Route 2, Burnsville. Private Jerry M. Gardner, son of Mr. and (drs. Gene Gardner of Burnsville recently completed an eight week tracked vehicle mechanic course at the U.S. Army Armor School, Ft. Knox, Ky. Navy Electrician’s Mate Fireman Dairen Edwards, son of Mr. and Mrs. Coy Edwards of Route 4, Burnsville has completed the Navy’s Basic electricity/electronics course. Four weeks of.study at the Naval Service Command, Great Lakes, 111. included review of basic mathematics, fundamental electrical for mulas plus the principles of alternating and direct current circuits. Students also re ceived instruction on basic circuit testing methods, in cluding the use of multime ters and audio signal genera tors. A 1977 graduate of Moun tain Heritage High School, he joined the Navy in July 1977.
