Local Minister's Son Named To Pfelffer's Faculty Among the eight new faculty members of Pheiffer Col lege Is Eugene W. Worn hie, son of Rev. and Mrs. F. C. Womble of Murphy. He will serve as Assistant Professor of Mathematics. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and holder of a M. A. Degree from the University of North Carolina, and has engaged in advanced studies at Tulane University. He is a former member of the Wake Forest College faculty. Arthur Shields Honored Arthur Shields was honored on his 81st birthday Sunday. August 13, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rayford C. Craig. All his children and relatives attended. Those present were: Rayford C. Verdie Lee, Danny, Joe, Louise, Judy, Shorty, and Ricky Craig of Mount Holly, N. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Helen Smith of Wash ington, D. C.: three sons, Roy, Woody and Billy of Washing ton, D. C.; a sister, Mrs. Nannie Newell of Jonesboro, Tenn.; and four brothers, Col umbus of Waynesvllle, Jess of Andrews, Frank of Nantahala and John of Frnaklln. Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Old Briar Town Baptist Church. The Rev. E. B. Whiten and the Rev. T. B . Denny officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. MAE STILES Mrs. Mae Rendy Stiles, 82, of Rt. 4, Murphy died at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 24, in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Addle Henson of Mineral Bluff. Mrs. Stiles was a daughter of the late Henry and Amanda Cook Davis and had lived in Cherokee County all her life. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Surviving are one other daughter, Mrs. Edna Mae Keid of Murphy: three sons, Mitchell of Murphy, Skyler of Turtletown, Tenn., andGeorge Winston Stiles of Manila, Utah; 44 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a brother George Davis of Mineral Bluff, Ga. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. The Rev. Lester Newman and the Rev. Emanuel Henry officiated and burial was In the church cemetery. Grand sons were pallbearers. Ivie Funeral Home was in chrage of arrangements. MRS. KISSELBURG Culberson -- Mrs. Laura Kissel burg. 89, of Rt. 2 Culberson died early Wednes day morning, August 23, at the home of a son after several weeks of illness. She was a native of Chero kee County, daughter of the late John Milton and Burnette Brown Anderson. She was the widow of Henry Lee Kissel burs:, who died in 1951. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dora Shields of Murphy and Mrs. Christobel Wright of Culberson; three sons, Perlle of Copperhlll, Tenn., and Homer and Luther of Rt. 2,Culberson; one sister, Mrs. Susie Barber: and one brother John Anderson of Culberson; 30 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in Shady Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Thomas Truett. the Rev. Earl Hughes and the Rev. Jim Kisselburg officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Townson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. EMORY C. HUGHES Emory C. Hughes, 76, of Blue Ridge, Ga. died In a Rome, Ga. hospital, Friday, August 25, after a long illness. Mr. Hughes was a decon in Bethlehem Baptist Church in Union County, Ga. and was a Mason. Services were held Sunday in Confidence Methodist Church In Union County. The Rev. Alvin Parrish and the Rev. Walter Smith officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Iowa Riley of Blue Ridge Ga.; four sons, Ernest and Homer of Blue Ridge, Ga., Verlin and TedHughesofElli jay, Ga: 22 grandchilren and three great-grandchildren. Townson Funeral Home was In charge of arrangements. MRS. VINA G ADDIS Mrs. Vina Gaddls, 87, died at the home of a daughter in Gastonia at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 25, after along illness. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hanging Dog Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Reed and the Rev. Clifton Elliott officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Grandsons were pallbearers. Surviving are three daugh ters, Mrs. Tina Arms of Murphy. Mrs. Lizzie West of Andrews and Mrs. Annie Lee Dockery of Gasn-nia; three sons, Carol of Gastonia, Lumis of Murphy and Ben Gaddis of Springfield, Ohio 34 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren and one great great - grandchild. Townson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MRS. CARRIE CLAYTON Brasstown ? Mrs. Carrie Brendle Clayton, 79, of Brasstown died in a Murphy hospital at 4:30 p. m. Wednesday, August 23, after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late John Henry and K.Norton Brendle. Mrs. Clayton had been a life long member of the Little Brasstown Baptist Church and had served aa Sunday School Superintendent and adult teacher for a number of years. She was a charter member of the Brasstown Woman's Club. Services were held at tl ? m. Friday in Little Brasstown Baptist Church. The Rev. Fred Lunsford officiated, and burial was In the church cemetery. Pall bearers were Aubrey Byers, Earl Adams, Marlon Myers, Harley Carrtnger, and Loyda Hog an. Surviving are the husband, William H.Clayton; a daughter Mrs. Ben L. Scott of Murphy; three sons, J. D.ef Brasstown, O. P. of Miami, Fla., and Kessnlt Clayton of Lakeland.
