An A&P spokesman indicated that the "Tea Company," as it is known in trade circles, was founded in New York City in 1859 by George Huntington Hartford, whose first stride in the development of the chain was to take tea out of the luxury class by buying direct from China. In so doing, it is claimed that he eliminated the profits of many middle men, thereby enabling him to sell the commodity much cheaper than ever before. Encouraged by success in that venture, Hartford expand ed his interest to other lines of food. Today an A&P store may have upwards of five thousand different items in its stock. Dear Editor: Here is something you may be able to use in your Civil Defense Campaign'. It goes to the tune of "Home on the Range." "Oh give me a home where the fallout can't come, and the air is as clean as can be, where shelters are cheap, I would dig my hole deep, so the Russians could never kill me. Home, Home in a pit, where the old radiation can't get, where seldom is heard a discouraging word. We Americans simply won't quit." Signed: A Murphy Citizen. At times, it was almost impossible to get through and necessitated a slow) ng down of the entire pro cession. I understand the Merchant's Association has mailed out letters to all entrants expressing their regrets in this matter. I per sonally feel that our town owes an apology to our friends from neighboring com m 1*11 ties who Joined in to make this what could have well been our finest parade. I hope next year we shall be able to see this matter corrected. It looks to me like It would be PirSTiipatt Church N.C.
