1962 MURPHY MIDGET FOOTBALL team Is officially known aa the "Bullgamrs." The
name was voted on by members of the squad. To date, the Bullgamrs have beaten the Hayes
vllle midgets 32-13 and lost last week id Robblnsvllle 27-6.
Hobart McKeever is serving as coach for the team, while Mike Clarke is line coach. Prior
B> the Robblnsvllle game. Father Jim Hite led the team In a "Sportsman Prayer" asking that
no member of either team be injured during the game.
According to Coach Clarke, the "Gators say they aim to reverse the score of the Robblns
vllle game on their next opponent.
Both coaches expressed great pleasure at the fine sportsmanship the Murphy boys showed
despite the loss ? showing that the aim of midget football Is being achieved.

FRANKLIN - A ten yard
pass from Joe Hall to Sonny
Burrell in the third quarter
enabled the Franklin Panthers
to overhaul Robfainsvllle on
Friday night as the Smoky
Mountain Conference teams
battled id a 7-7 craw.
The touchdown pass climax
ed a 70-yard drive which had
started on Franklin's SO-yard
stripe following an exchange of
punts. Burrell's kick tied the
game.
Robfainsvllle tallied early
in the flrstperlod when Frank
lin's attempted punt inside its
own 15-yard stripe was fumb
led, and although Franklin re
covered the ball on the two
yard marker, Robfainsvllle
took over on downs.
On the second play, Ken
neth Garland crashed over
from the one-yard stripe.
Garland ran the point to give
Robfainsvllle a 7-0 lead which
it retained until the third
period.
The outcome left Robfains
vllle and Franklin tied with a
1-3-1 record in conference
play.

Late In the second period,
Kenny English, returning the
Heyeevllle punt, bohbied the
ball on the Murphy 45-yard
line. It appeared that Hayes -
vllle had recovered. The re
feree ruled that Murphy was
on top of the ball all the time.
With a minute and forty
four seconds remaining In die
first half, Kenny English took
a 35-yard pass from Van Horn
to put Murphy ahead 34-0 at
half time.
The try for the extra point
failed as Van Horn handed off
to English, who sampled to
pass to Haney in the sod none.
In the final few ae coals of

The remainder of the third
quarter was spent with Murphy
end Hayesvllle swiping
fumbles on the 50-ysrd line.
Bullpup Jtnuny Cole opened
the fourth quarter, scoring
from seven yards out. QB
Wayne Watson, on a keeper,
added the point. A few minutes
later, Eddie Palmer bulled a
cross from the 15-yard line
and Watson again on a keeper
added the point.
The final score came in the
closing two mlnums as the
Murphy first team came In
rfter a pair of personal fouls
were called against Hayes
vllle.
English added the final six
points on a three yard plunge.
Van Horn hobbled the ball on
the attempt for the point.
The victory gave dm Mur
phy Bulldogs a 5-0 record. The
Bulldogs travel to Robblns
vllle next Friday. Hayesvllle
now 2-4'In the season, will
entertain the Andrews Wild
cats at home.

Wildcats Edged 14-13 By Undefeated Sylva

came the first team to score
on the highly-touted Sylva
Websier Golden Eagles, and
enjoyed a 13-7 lead over the
vision from the third per
iod until the final minutes of
the game when the second
Eagle score and the all-Im
portant convenlon gave the
Eagles a 14-13 advantage that
won the game.
Early In the opening per
iod. Butch Sursavage punted
the ball O the Sylva 2-yard
line. The Eagles marched 98
yards for their fint ouch
down, sparked by a 45 yard
run by their stair tailback,
Forrest Bryson. Two plays
later, Bryson went over for
the score from the 10-yard
line. Bryson also kicked the
extra Doint.
The Wildcats came back
strong with a sustained drive,
sat up by a 34-yard sprint
by sophomore fullback Jerry
Haney, which carried o the
Sylva-Webster 10-yard stripe.
They lost their scoring op
portunity by a fumble.
