BIG NIGHT FOR MURPHY'S COACH - The highlight of the annual Murphy
Quarterback Club's Football banquet was the presentation by the club of a new
1963 Chevrolet to Coach Ralph "Chuck" McConnell.
One-hundred and fifty members, wives, players, and girl friends witnessed
the presentation. The panel of photos above tell the story better than words
can describe.

were found inside bv the flabbergasted coach.
Astonished beyond words Coach McConnell, In a famllar gesture rubs his

pleased expression. Dr. Hoover seems to be enjoying the procedlngs. The
coach's familiar old 1955 Chevrolet sedan will pass to Mrs. McConnell. In
stead of football and basketball trips, it will be retired for runs to the grocery

of happy pandemonium, but
being annual. It's a pleasure,"

GIRLS GAME
The Hlwassee Dam Eagles
took two big victories from
the Andrews Wildcats on their
home court Friday night. Dec.
14.
The Hiwassee Dam girls
defeated Andrews 43-29. The
Eagles were led by Sue Wat
son. Linda McNabb. Joyce
Haney, and Ann Wood.
The Eagles scored first on
a foul shot by Joyce Haney.
The Wildcats came back tast
with two points and another on
a foul shot.
Eagle Sue Watson came
through with a driving 2 -
pointer to tie the score and
again to put the Eagles In
front for keeps.
At the end of the flrstquar
ter, the Eagles led 17-9. At
half time, the score was 26-16
and at the end of the third
quarter 33-24.
BOYS GAME
The mdefeated Hlwassee
Dam Eagles continued their
winning ways turning back the
Wildcats at Andrews High with
a score of 45-38 at die Hl
wassee Dam gym Friday night.
The big guns for the high
flying Bagles were LarryMc
Nabb and BUI Helton.
The Eagles Increased their
one point lead 8-7 at the end
of the first quarter to four
points, 17-14 at half time.
At the end of the third per
iod, the Eagles were seven
points ahead, 33-26.
GIRLS GAME
It was a big night for Hl
wassee Dam's Joyce Haney
as she led the Eagle team to
a 55-38 victory of the Robbtns
vUle girls. Haney was high
scorer for the evening with
23 points.
The Blue Devils started the
scoring but the girls from Hl
wassee Dam soon recovered
with a foul shot and a field
goal to jump out in front 3-2.
At the end of the first quarter,
the Eagles were ahead 14-7,
and at half time 30-17,
The lead at the beginning
of the fourth quarter was ex
tended to 18 points as the
Eagles continued to pull a
way from the hosting Blue
DevU girls.

the Strategic Air Command
Band of Outfit AFB - station
ed at their SAC headquarters
near Omaha, Neb.
. Buddy plays and special
izes on the flute and saxa
phone, as well as other
musical Instruments. He is
also a member of the band's
24 voice glee club.
The SAC band is really
several musical organizations
in one. In addition to a 40
plece band, they can muster
a 16 piece dance orchestra,
or be transformed into a full
fledged concert band, as well
as several small combos. The
band averages more than a
dozen engagements a week.
They have played in most of
the states, and last year log
ged more than 30,000 miles
from border to border and
coast to coast. They are term
ed as the most outstanding
musical groip in uniform.
Murray is a first cousin
of Miss Jerry Ruth Smith of
Martins Creek, a well-known
musician in this area. He and
his parents, Mrs. Mary Lou
Coleman Murray, and the laB
Calvin Murray, and sisters,
Betty and Barbara, of New
Orleans, have spent several
