THE CHEROKEE SCOUT aad CLAY COUNTY PROGRESS V?l. 73 N?. 23 Muoriiy. N. C .Jan. 3. 1M3 S Po9.. TM. Published W.?bly SmmiI CIq.. Pot>o9. Paid at Muiph Clay County's Liveliest Recipe For Christmas Spirit Punch Mixed Again First Of 250 Children Line-Up To Visit Sent. SPECIAL TO SCOUT AND PROGRESS HAYESVILLE ? Clay County's llvlledt recipe for Christmas spirit punch and properly mixed here again on Saturday before the big day Itself. Ingredients? Take 250 children, Bootee Sized id 12 year olds. Get a huge pile of hot dogs, pop corn, cold drlns, or anges, candy and presents for everybody. Add a BIG Christmas tree. Sift In a program of top run cartoons and a colorful game. (The game must be properly elaborate. Try a big board with electrically operated spinning wheels to come ig> with lucky numbers for prizes form a dollar to ten dollars. Pour It all Into an auditorium. Stir well with Santa Clause and quietly walk away for a couple of blocks. You'll Hear Id The Annual Lidseen of North Carolina, Inc., Christmas party was held at Hayesvllle High School Auditorium De cember 22 at 10:00 a.m. with what could at least be des cribed as Happy success. Edwin Lidseen, who an nually sponsors and emcees the now-traditional community event, forcast what he called "a fair amount of Happy pan demonium" a few days before the party. He was one of the prime movers In making his fore cast good. Lidseen proved that 250 space-age children can count backward In a manner which would give Cape Can averal backward-counters red faces. The Uds signalled for num ber wheels to spin during the door prize give-away. Count down for the big one of ten dollars started with a re strained "ten" (during which adults could merely not here themselves think) and wound up with a "ZERO" which had a decibel level about like blast off of an Atlas booster. Marie Miller had the lucky ticket for a ten dollar Christ mas prize; RogerLedfordwon a five dollar prize; dollar prizes went to Anita Wood, Dlaime Auberry, Elaine Moore, Clifton Cothern, Gloria Swanson, Wanda Par ker, Joyce Ledford, David Stillwell, Jeneal Burch and Tommy Burrell. The party was about exactly the kind of thing any boy or girl would pick as exactly the kind of thing to have. Cartoons were broken with nicely timed Intermissions and popcorn andhotdog breaks proved popular. Lldseen took time away from moving things along (at the kind of a clip mlnus-12 year-olds think proper) to say thanks to some of the per sons who helped plan, organize and staff the event. He Included the following for a share of credit. ,Mr. and Mrs. A.C.Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Hoby Garrett, Mrs. Mary Rosenkranz, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Auberry, Mr. and Mrs. Commie Brown, Joe Blankenshlp, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chambers, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Swanson, Mrs. Christine Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Curtis, Guy Wheeler, Johnny Mull, Frank Galloway, Alvin Penland ( who took color movies of it all), Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Black and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dyer. Santa Clause came on stage to an ovation and took orders from lengthy lines of child ren filing^between a handsome Christmas tree, stacks of packages and mounds of oranges and candy. It was the biggest crowd yet at one of the annual Lid seen parties. It also may have set the record for that "Happy Pandemonium" so cheerfully predicted, but as Lidseen had also said before the party " being annual, it's a pleasure." It was, for all concerned, obviously at least a pleasure. Only one tiny, dissenting voice was heard from a boy regret fully leaving the auditorium at about 12:30 p.m. "I'll be thirteen next year and I can't come then," He said.
