State Convention

ives from Cherokee County
are expected to register for
the Second Annual Teen-Dem
Convention slated for North
Carolina State College, June
14-15. According id Mrs. Pete
Stalcup, at least six delegates
are expected to attend from
Cherokee County.
The youthful delegates, ris
ing high school freshmen,
sophomores. Juniors and sen
iors, will participate in work
shops, discuss current politi
cal Issues, write their own
resolutions, and elect their
own officers. The entire con
vntion will follow the format
used by state and national
Democrats.
The delegates will stay on
the campus where all con
vention acdvites will be held.
Adult advisors will consist
of YDC and other party offi
cials.

blanks for those eligible to

young people from First Bap
tist Church, Andrews, at
tended the State Baptist Youth
Convention in Boone on Fri
day, Saturday, and Sunday.
The theme of the Convention
was "One World - One Lord.'
On Saturday morning the
finals of the Intermediate
Sword Drill were held. Danny
Lunsford, Marble, participated
in this event. Edwin Barlow,
from the Andrews Church,
took part in the Young Peo
ple's Speaker's Tournament.
He was one of ten participants.
Attending from the Andrews

cently initiated into Alpha Phi
Sigma National Honorary
Scholastic Society. Member
ship in this organization re
quires that a student maintain
a scholastic average of at least
3.25 out of a possible 4.00
quality point rating for three
successive quarters and have
at least 90 quarter hours
credit.
Miss Sprung is secretary of
the Newman Club; a member
of the Math Club, the Debate
Club, the American Chemical
Society; and has been named to
the honor roll for four of her
five quarters at WCC.
Miss Sprung is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James R.
Sprung of Murphy. A graduate
of Murphy High School, she
was Salutatorian for her class.
