Unaka Club Reports Progress On Project
UNAKA - The Unaka Com
munity Development Club held
Its third meeting Saturday,
June 1, at 8:00 p.m. at the
Unaka Elementary School.
Twenty-one members attend
ed the meeting and discussed
work which has already been
done on the projects selected
by the community. Beautlfl
catlon of the church cemetary
has been iven top priority
and the work has been going
on nicely, however, work is
yet to be done, a club spokes
man said.
The Unaka Church ceme
tary Is one of Cherokee
County's oldest. Up to this
time, this cemetary has been
one of the county's most neg
lected, but will be the most
beautiful when the community
completes its work. The res
ponsibility for seeing that
this Is done has been given
to Willis Beaver.
Beautlfication of the road
sides will soon get underway
with much of the responsibi
lity being given to a group of
young people who have shown
much community spirit and
willingness id accept and ac
complish whatever task Is
given them to do. Unaka Is
proud of their 4-H Club and
believes the roadside beautl
fication project Is In good
hands.
Cecil Jones was selected
as chairman of the health
and safety committee. His
first task was finding a suit
able location for a community
trash cump. It Is anticipated
by those who know Mr. Jones
that in a very short time a
dump will be located, and will
need only cooperation of the
community to be successful.
The Unaka Community De
velopment Club would like to
extend an Invitation to mem
bers of any other community
who would like to see first
hand what can be accomplished
by a community through the
cooperation of Its members.
lite next meeting will be
held Saturday night, July 6,
at eight p.m. at the Unaka
