Thurs., Oct. 26, 1963 Car Stolen At Copperhill Found Burned In County VIOLET - A car that had been stolen in Copperhill, Tenn., was found here over the weekend, stripped of everything of value, then burneJ. SBI Agent M. G. Crawford of Murphy said that the car was stolen from Clifford Rose of Liberty, who works at Ten nessee Copper Co. The vehicle was stolen while he was at tending a union meeting there several weeks ago. The burned out auto was dis covered at Chuler's Creek, near the site of the old CCC Cany in the Violet section. Mr. Crawford said that another auto stolen at Cleve land, Tenn., was found in this same section of the County two months ago, with all glasses broken out and badly battered. MRS. BETTY NIX HAYESVILLE - Mrs. Betty Lou Patterson Nix, 31, former resident of Clay County, was killed Wednesday, Oct. 16, in a highway accident near Shef field. m. . She was riding in a truck driven by her husband, Harry G. Nix, when it was involved in an accident with another truck. The couple had lived in Cleveland, Ga., until a week ago, when they moved to Winter Haven, Fla. Mrs. Nix was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Verlin Pat terson of HayesvUle, Rt. 3. TV Station Seeking Location For Translator Relay Here ASHEVILLE - Officials of W LOS -TV, channel 13, have notified Murphy Chamber of Commerce President W. D. Towns on that the station is sending engineers to Murphy to seek a location to erect a translator, which would re broadcast the station's signal for residents in this area. George Sprague, chief engi neer of die station, said that W LOS-TV now has instal lations of this type in Bryson City, Waynes ville, and Try on, and has applications pending with die Federal Communi cations Commission for Sylva and Franklin. A "translator" receives the signal of the television station and re-broadcasts it on a different channel, with sufficient power to cover a specific community. Sprague said the station must find a location where the Channel 13 picture can be re ceived within a few miles of Murphy, and where the Instal lation will have "line of sight" over the community. There must be an access road to the location, and poM must be available to rrvalu workable.
