C. | - ^ Thieves Loot Safe At Coble Dairy Offices BRASSTOWN - Thieve* en tered the office of Coble tlairy here Saturday night, broke into the company safe and made off with a small amount of cash. When first contacted Sun day, Coble officials feared that the thieves had escaped with a large sum, but after later checking with company drivers, it was determined that most of the day's receipts had not been placed in the safe, and that the loss amount ed to $28.50. Relatives Here Receive Word Of Brother's Death HAYESVILLE - Word has been received here of the death of Lewis Victor Stamey, 74, of Polkton, N. C. He was a brother of Mrs. Mellie Rog ers and Marion Stamey, both of Hayes villa. Mr. Stamey died October 7 in Anson County Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held October 9 in Hopewell Metho dist Church, conducted by The Revs. Marvin Honeycutt, War ren Hawks, and Carl Plyler, with burial in the church cmetery. He was a native of Georgia, and had operated a shoe repair shop in Polkton for many years. Other survivors include the wife, Mrs. Claudie K. Stamey of Rt. 1, Polkton; three daugh ters, Mrs. Sam Ensley of Ducktown, Tenn., Mrs. Willie Gentry of Daws on vi lie, Ga., and Mrs. Louis Roberts of Eli jay, Ga.; two sons, Ru - dolph N. Stamey of Marietta, Ga., and Eston Stamey of Decatur, Ga.; 17 grandchild ren and 15 great-grandchild ren. Leavitt Funeral Home of Wadesboro, N. C., was in charge of arrangements. Elf 4-H Club To Present 3 Skits HAYESVILLE - The Happy Mountain Lower Elf 4-H Club will give a skit program at the Elf School, Saturday night, Oct. 26, at 8:00 p.m. The following skits will be presented: "Two Old Maids Mistake A Minister For A Handy Man", "Mrs. Stuck-Up Finds She Has Insulted Her Future Boss", and "A Man Arrives". Cherokee Scout & Clay County Progress, Thurs., Oct. 26, 1963 Clay County Sheriff Neal R. Kitchens and State Bureau of Investigation Agent M. C. Crawford of Murphy, who are investigating the break-in, re ported that the thieves enter ed the building by breaking ? window, releasing the lock, and climbing through. The contents of the safe were carried across the road, leaving a trail of scattered papers and items included in the contents. Sheriff Kitchens said the thieves broke pins on the safe door and knocked out the lock with burglar tools. The safe, valued at $150.00 was demolished. Mrs. Caldwell .former Miss Clayton J, UJJ to BRASSTOWN-Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Clayton of Brasstown announce the marriage of their daughter, Doris, to James L. Caldwell, son of Mrs.Queeter Caldwell and the late Mr. Caldwell of Brasstown. Mrs. Caldwell is a graduate of Hayes ville High School and of National Correspondence School. Mr. Caldwell is a graduate of Hayesvllle High and attended Young Harris College. The couple will make their home in Brasstown. Phillips married 52 years Phillips To Observe 52nd Anniversary HAYESV1LLE - Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Phillips will ob serve their 52nd wedding an niversary Friday, Oct. 25, at their home in the Tusquit tee community of Clay County. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Moore were married in a double wedding ceremony at the Tusquittee Methodist Church by the Rev. Warren, Oct. 25, 1911. Mrs. Phillips is the former Miss Edna Moore, daughter of Lawrence Moore and the late Mrs. Moore. , Mr. and Mrs. Phillips are members of the Tusquittee Methodist Church. They have lived in the Tusquittee Valley all their lives. They have owned and operated a store for the past forty years and ) are still in the mercantile business. They are parents of three children who are; Mrs. Bar ney Cagle of Smyrna, Ga? Wayne Phillips of Hayes - ville, and Lawrence of Young Harris^Ga^Thwhavefive grandchildren. Mr. Phillips served as a U.
