N DREWS IN Lucy Lought*r S??H Cerrespwideel 101-W Andrew*, N.C Santa Arrives Fridav In Christmas Parade ANDREWS * The Christmas parade, an annual event, is scheduled for Friday alter - noon, beginning at 4 p.m. Santa will arrive on the acene loaded with candy and accompany the parade, which Will begin near the Pure Oil Station proceeding through Main Street to the east end of town. Sharing the spotlight with Sanu will be floats. School Band, Homecoming Queen, marching units, horses and several automobiles, be decked with typical red and green holiday colors. John Boring is the general chairman of the Christmas Parade committee. Other members include Lee Nich ols, Churches: C. O. Frazier, Bands and Music; Joe El - Khouri, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts; W. D. Whitaker, Busi ness and Industry; Grady Gar rett, Old Car Entries; Charles Higdon and Ty Burnette, Rid ing Club; Sam Hartman, Civic Clubs. Plans indicate this year's parade to be one of the best in recent years. 1 5 A ttend Youth Meeting ANDREWS - The Youth Fel lowship of the Presbyterian Church met on Sunday even ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bristol. Refresh ments were served to fifteen members of the youth group. Sponsors of this group are Mrs. L. B. Nichols and Mrs. Joe Sursavage. Valleytown HD Club Plans Christmas Party ANDREWS " A Christmas party for the Valleytown Home Demonstration Club will be held on December 17 at the home of Mrs. E. U. Burch with Miss Betty Sue Best as co-hostess. A pot-luck supper will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by gift exchange of hand made articles. Members are asked tobring a gift for a patient at Brough ton Hospital in Morganton. Christmas Bazaar Friday, Saturday At First Methodist ANDREWS - A Christmas bazaar sponsored by women of the First Methodist Church will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Fellowship Hall. During the two days a gift sale of hand made articles plus cakes, candies and other types of food will be on dis play. The public is invited. Thomasson, Sr., born Dec. 11, 1870, will celebrate his 93rd birthday on Wednesday. The lively, active merchant, perhaps the oldest merchant in Cherokee County, has a small grocery store connected with his home. He has a hobby of growing Boxwoods, and in spare time writes poetry. Mr. Thomasson was born in Swain County. He spent his boyhood there working as a clerk in a store and as as Presbyterian Women To Help Kentucky School ANDREWS - The women of the Presbyterian Church met on Monday evening, Nov. 25, at the home of Mrs. L. B. Nichols. The devotional was given by Mrs. Fred Liles. Mrs. Joe Sursavage gave the Bible Study. Rev. Edward Whitson and Mrs. John Slagle presented a program on the Unity of the Church. The group voted to send clothing to an isolated school in Kentucky. An offering was taken for the Church Orphan age. Mrs. Edwin Bristol, presi dent, presided. The meeting was closed with prayer by Mrs. L. B. Nichols, Jr. sistant postmaster. He at tended Board School in Bry son City and upon completion of this training, taught school for 17 years in Swain and Cherokee Counties. He at tended Young Harris College in the 1890' s. In 1892 he moved to Chero kee County where he met Miss Exie Ann Johnson whom he married on March 22, 1896. They lived in Murphy and Peach tree and later moved to Andrews where he has com pleted 58 years in his present business. Mr. Thomas son has six liv ing children, T. F. Thomas son of Andrews, J. H. Thom as son of Kelly, N. C., Mrs. Cora Lunsford, Mrs. C. W. Lunsford, Mrs. Bert Gregory, all of Andrews, and T. J. Thomasson, Jr., of Clinton, Tenn.. sixteen grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three grc. - Teat - grand children. Lutheran LCW To Meet Dec. 1 1 ANDREWS - The L. C. W. of St. Andrews Lutheran Church will meet at the home of Mrs. J. G. Carrier on Wed nesday, December 11, at 2 p.m. The program, a Christmas topic, will be followed by an exchange of gifts. Mrs. E. MA THE SON TOPTON - Junes Floyd Matheson, 39, of Knoxvllle, Tend., formerly of Topton, died Thursday, Nov. 28, in a Knoxvllle hospital after a short illness. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Kathleen Wiggins Mathe son; the mother, Mrs. Jess Matheson of Topton; two bro thers, Carroll and Ray of Topton; two sisters, Mrs. Earl George of Robbinsvllle and Mrs. W. D. Cottrell of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in Rose Mortuary Chapel in Knoxvllle. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. MISS MARY YOUNG ANDREWS - Miss Mary Young, 81, of Andrews, died at her home Saturday after noon, November 30, after ? Ions illness. She was a daughter of the late William T. and Carolina Rogers Young of Cherokee County. She had been a man* her ait the Andrews Metho dist Church for many years. Survivors include four bro thers, Oscar and Roe, both a t Andrews, Qiarles of Enka, and Donald of Texas. Services were held at 2 p.m. . Monday in Valleytown Baptist Church. The Rev. France Postell and the Rev. Roy Goods on of ficiated and burial was in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ted Trull, Gordon Wilson, Mon roe Clark, Leon Pugh, Clay Birchfield, and Jake Brown.
