National Legion Of Diceici Movie Ratings The Catholic Bishops of the U. S. on the Committee for Motion Pictures re cently made the following statement: "It has been said that the theatre owner exercises a profound In - fluence upon the life and culture of a community. He wields a very powerful instrument of communicat ion. His choice of films, and his manner of exhibit ing diem, can either ennoble or debase the minds and hearts of his fellow citizens. The wel fare of our future citizens and of our country demands sympathetic colloboratlon of exhibitor and parent. By such collaboration, the theatre owner can help check that exaggerated permissiveness which Is weakening the moral fiber of our national being. "For our youngster, as for the generality of men, virute flourishes in a so ciety which favors rather than opposes it. The home is the cradle of a child's virtue. But the local thea tre is the haixknald of its maturation, because it transports the child to live, by an often unforgettable vicarious experience, the life of his future manhood. Film producers, distrlbiK ors and exhibitors may not ignore their social res ponsibility to the child, to its parents or to die future welfare of the nation which guarantees us the precious blessings of liberty." However, since they sometimes do ignore their social responsibility, it falls upon others ? church leaders, parents, and even the children themselves.
